Photographer's Note

The Cathedral of Sant 'Alessandro of Bergamo -il Duomo-, is one of the emblematic monuments of Citt� alta.
The construction of the building began in the fifteenth century, under the direction of the architect Filarete.
If the exterior has a classic appearance (the main facade dates from the nineteenth century), the interior is richly decorated.

In addition to this fully decorated dome, the Duomo is full of treasures, including beautiful marquetry panels, with incredible astuteness.
In the chapel of St. Vincent are exposed the tiara, the chalice and the crown of Pope John XXIII, born in Sotto il Monte, near Bergamo. John XXIII, nicknamed "il Papa buono" (the good Pope) in Italy, was initiator of Vatican II, which marks a major event in the history of the Catholic Church in the twentieth century.

The Cathedral of Sant 'Alessandro is next to the Palazzo della Ragione (Palace of Reason), the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica and chapel Colleoni, and faces the baptistery.

Hello Delphine,

You have given us a very interesting and informative note (I love notes!) and what a beautiful photograph you have presented to illustrate it! And, what is more, you are one of the few people who (like me) add co-ordinates so that we can all see exactly where you took the photograph - thank you for that!

This is a beautifully clear and sharp photograph of an amazing work of art. Did you lie on your back to get this picture? Wonderful colours, perfect exposure and exquisite detail and sharpness.

Incidentally, if, like me, you like maps, have a look here, then drag the little yellow man down to the red cross and I think you can see the Duomo from the road! You can then pan around and move around too! This is quite easy to do - just find the place then remember to "Copy the map centre to the address line" and then copy the address line to add as a link in your notes.

Hello Delphine

A perfect, symmetric depiction of the interior of the dome at the Duomo, Sant Alexandro of Bergamo. Complemented by an informative note, it is in the best spirit of Trekearth of learning geography through photography. I placed it in the group theme, " Domes, Spires and Minarets".

au moyen de cette impeccable contre-plong閑 tu as obtenu une image r閑llement fantastique, o� nous pouvons appr閏ier avec une grande nettet� la d閏oration riche et les peintures de cette coupole dor閑 du Duomo.
Ce n'est pas une photo facile, indubitablement, cependant tu as cr殚 une composition millim閠rique, parfaitement sym閠rique et avec une g閛m閠rie tr鑣閘間ante.
