Traduction
The exterior of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore has an austere appearance. The building dates from the twelfth century, when the Lombard-Romanesque style dominated.

On both sides of the transept, two portals break this severe unity by ornaments. At the south, the door of the white lions faces the piazza Rosate. The porch signed Giovanni da Campione is dated 1367. It is supported by two rows of columns. Those outside are based on lions.

The northern portal is called "Red Lion door."

Hello Delphine, The lions also look bare & void of any elaborate ornaments, I can imagine the church was very simple inside. Nice capture from a well chosen POV, you have done well to include both lions & the interesting entrance with its checkerboard floor. A good quality image with colours, light & sharpness how it should be. Well done
