Photographer's Note
A scanned paper picture from 09/2003 visit to Sicilia and mount- Etna.
View from the edge of a the crater, one of many in different sizes can be found on this height (2300m +/-).
While walking, on volcanic ash and gravel, each person raise dust that is very thin, even microscopic in size - not too good for breathing.
Altogether, a very special earth formation, unusual, known to look as moon-face terrain, not that I had been there either...

Bonsoir, cher Ike,
Une vieille photo qui n'a rien perdu de son intérêt. La numérisation est excellente et permet de découvrir ce monde lunaire.
Très belle réussite photographique.
Très bonne soirée;
Amitiés.

Hello Ike,
As far as I know there are fewer houses and roads on the moon, and probably less vegetation, but maybe the impression of utter desolation is the same. This is not a charming and beautiful scenery but it is highly interesting, even though looking rather unwelcoming. From what I can judge you did a good job with the scanning, and the paper print seems to have kept the colours well.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello dear friend and have a nice time
this photo brought to me memories from
my last visit to Sicilia and mount Etna
every year the shape of this mountain
changes because new craters are created

Ciao Ike
purtroppo con la scansione si perde un po' di qualità, ma rimane l'atmosfera del luogo, con questo terreno arido costituito da attività sismiche di chissà quanti anni.

Hi Ike,
The wideness of the area is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the desolation of the area. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ike,
Yes, it does look quite otherworldly. Christmas 2003 is when I switched to digital photography. My wife got me a Kodak DX6340 and I said good-bye to film. When did you make the switch?

MT

Hi Ike
A good record shot of natures of what looks like some very inhospitable territory! and a lesson in Geography. A well captured the detail and exposure spot on and the portrait style suiting this image well. Congrats

Hi Ike
The lunar moonscape of the Mt Etna lava and ash fields is well depicted in this superb image. Good sharpness and smart choice of a vertical format. The pale reddish yellow at the bottom contrasts well against the soft blue sky. Tfs.

Hello Ike.
A curious and interesting composition, with these remarkable contrasts of colors, due to different lands, a desolate landscape, as is most of the surrounding volcanoes.
Superb composition and color.
Excellent brightness and sharpness.
Well done. I love the photo.
You enjoy a good day.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hello Ike,
In the summer of 2002, just a year before you I stood at the same spot. It is perfectly scanned shot, just as vivid as a modern digital image. A few months before I was the volcano had erupted, with lava flowing downhill and wreaking the steel girders of a cable car along the way.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Ike,
this looks like an extraterrestrial landscape that engages the viewer immediately. It's engaging as there is proof that this is Earth and signs that it isn't. I like how the perspective takes us downwards and then upwards again, covering a long distance. The colours and the atmosphere are very strange, a slight tilt to the right becomes part of the unusual experience. The familiar details make quite attractive focal points. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,
Ourania

It does looks like a very hostile environment, a desert like. I heard so much about this volcano it would be interesting to get a night shot of the top. Good pov and dof with nice details for a scan image. Well done, tfs.

Morning Ike
That's a spectacular landscape. The title is good; it looks like something from an other planet. I like your choice of cropping. The buildings in the distance makes the place seem deserted and makes me recall abandoned mining towns in Sweden.
Great old shot.
Cheers and have a good day

Hi Ike
if this was taken in the city area, if it were new construction (which it kind of looks like) I would say to you it must look VERY different in 2015...but now knowing this is Mount Etna....i doubt anything has really changed at all.
its a scruffy and dirty kind of photo, certainly not a postcard style :)
but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for this one
cheers

Hello Ike,
Old picture from Etna. But Etna is 3,329 m so it is not the top. We like to say about the moon landscape although we weren't there. I see some building there. The landscape looks rather unfriendly. I am fascinated with volcanos, but i was on top of only one, in Guatemala. Interesting photo from your archive.
Warm regards Malgo

Hello Ike,
A beautiful lunar landscape with some limited vegetation.
With the different paths and walking trails this is a very good composition.
The black landscape tells us this is a volcanic region.
Regarding the dust, I was recently in Chile, another volcanic territory. The north of the country had the dry season and in some places there was so much dust.
Best regards, Paul

Ha! Ha! Ike, I'm sure I have never read about any other nationality visiting the moon! It is only our human curiosity that drives us to visit such places for I'm sure we wouldn't enjoy living in such a colourless, vegetationless environment!
Your photograph gives an excellent impression of what we could expect to see ... on the moon! Your scan has revealed the terrain, its slopes and fissures and the colours seem very true. Well done!
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi İke,
Etna gene devrede ve püskürmeye başladı.
Zamanında oralardan güzel bir belgesel çekmişsin.
Bakınca insan biraz irkiliyor,
Tebrikler,çünkü ustaca bir çekim.Toprakta sanki hüzünlü.
