Photographer's Note
Canale di Tenno, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.
The medieval village Canale di Tenno sits perched
on a mountain slope halfway between Lake Garda and the Alps. It has recently been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy and this is not surprising: narrow paved alleys, arcades, small internal squares, houses set one against the other, as ancient villages of the 13 century so often were.
The village was abandoned after the war, but in the sixties it came back to life thanks to lively artistic and cultural activities. The Casa degli Artisti (Home of the Artists), dedicated to the artist Giacomo Vittone, has its seat here and is a residence and meeting place for artists from the whole of Europe.
Another of Canale’s attractions is the beauty of its surrounding landscape: from its 428 metre position you can admire the splendid Lake Garda, and behind it imposing mountains. Or you can reach Lake Tenno, one of the clearest stretches of water in Trentino, characterized by its intense turquoise colour.
When we were there, there was hardly a soul about, although I spied this young lad, perhaps surprised to see someone else on the street.

Hello Will,
This sounds like an interesting place, judging from your description, and these heavy vaults and dark alleys seem to confirm that impression. There can't have been many colours worth saving, so I'm entirely in favour of doing this in B&W. The boy, well placed in the light area, is a fine addition, especially because of his interested look at the photographer. In fact, he almost creates the composition all on his own.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Will
Amazing kernel of texture in the stonework and that little kid is straight out of a Horror film. I'm sure he is a wonderful person, but in this shot he is outright creepy. Only the strong light on him offsets this a little. Brilliant timing to capture the shot with this circumstance
Cheers

Hi dear Will
Your masterful shot is this! The choice of B&W is the best answer. Nice geometrical effcet and output, reflecting with your high sense.

Hello Will,
A place that is new to me. Thank you for the interesting notes.
This is one of those shots that surprises and delights.
The textural details are remarkable in the shadowy areas and lead irresistibly to the sunlight beyond the arch.
The figure is very well placed and contrasts so strongly that he appears almost spectral!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Ciao Will
This is a wonderful Black & White photo, I really don't think it would have had the same effect as a colour version. The lightplay is so subtle and beautifully controlled. I like the lone person which adds a touch of spookiness to an already suggestive photo.
Warmest wishes, thanks for sharing

This is a great one, Will. Great bl/w picture with frame within frame within frame and some really good stone textures. The crowning element is the boy not quite in the middle. Him being slightly overexposed lends a touch of mystery to the scene, which lifts the picture to an even higher level. I really like this one. Congratulations!

Hello Will,
When it is listed in the Ranking of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it must be very interesting. And even more if it was abandoned. the thick stone walls and arches look beautiful here. Appearing of this lad made it very interesting. I like the post procession very much.

Hello Will,
It's always a pleasure to see recent posts from you. This is a lovely B&W work of art, the young man in the photo is ideally placed (almost exactly 0.618 parts measured from the right) and grabs one's eye. The note is detailed and complements the wonderful photo.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello again,
I don't know how I missed this shot, but this is really excellent! Even if the boy is a bit over-exposured (which was hard to avoid in this situation), this is an outstanding photo, which goes to my favourites.
Best Wishes,
Gy

It would have been an interesting photo simply composed of all those arches and stone walls. But the boy makes it perfect, almost overexposed, which gives him a ghost-like appearance, he adds a special touch to the play of light and shadow happening at the end of the "tunnel".
Have a nice weekend
Kasia
