Broken dreams, a photo from Milan, Lombardia

Photographer's Note

Today I was looking at last year's archive when this photo happened to me. Every now and then I photograph a few planes while I am in the meadows looking for butterflies, planes that land at the nearby Milan Malpensa airport pass above me. Coincidentally I had photographed this Emirates painted in the colors of EXPO Dubai 2020. The start of this extraordinary event was scheduled for these days, but the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everything. Expo 2020 is the universal exhibition planned and scheduled now in the Emirate of Dubai in the period between 1 October 2021 and 31 March 2022 (postponed since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) with an estimated flow of 25 million visitors. The theme foreseen for the Exhibition is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, closely connected to the Arabic name of the city, al-Waṣl, which means "connection". The Exposition will fall on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates, the Golden Jubilee of the state. I want to dedicate the photo to Ike and Pierre, the two passionate members of planes.

Oggi stavo guardando nell'archivio dello scorso anno quando mi � capitata questa foto. Ogni tanto fotografo qualche aereo mentre io sono nei prati a cercare farfalle, sopra di me passano gli aerei che atterrano al vicino aeroporto di Milano Malpensa. Casualmente avevo fotografato questo Emirates dipinto con i colori dell' EXPO Dubai 2020. La partenza di questo evento straordinario era prevista per questi giorni, ma la pandemia di Covid-19 ha cambiato tutto. L'Expo 2020 � l'esposizione universale prevista e programmata adesso presso la citt� emiratina di Dubai nel periodo fra il 1� ottobre 2021 e il 31 marzo 2022 (rinviato dal 2020 a causa della pandemia di COVID-19) con un flusso stimato di 25 milioni di visitatori. Il tema previsto per l'Esposizione � Connecting Minds, Creating the Future (collegare le menti, creare il futuro), strettamente connesso al nome arabo della citt�, al-Waṣl , che significa "il collegamento". L'Esposizione cadr� nel 50� anniversario dalla fondazione degli Emirati Arabi Uniti, il Golden Jubilee dello Stato. Voglio dedicare la foto a Ike e Pierre, i due membri appassionati di aerei.

Bonsoir Luciano,

L'avion est bien plac� dans le cadrage. La prise de vue permet de voir les d閠ails du Airbus A380 de la compagnie Emirate. En raison du COVID 19 beaucoup de plans de voyage vont changer. Pour mes prochaines vacances je lea passerai au Qu閎ec. Bonne soir閑.

Yes, maybe I was flying over the roof of your place on my way to Crans Montana (CH) many years ago, I still recall the short stay in Milan.

Bien cadr� cet avion sur fond de ciel bleu. Avec cette pand閙ie et les mesures n閏essaires pour 関iter que le virus ne circule trop dans les mois qui viennent ... il nous faut oublier les voyages en avion, pour combien de temps ? C'est s鹯 que certaines compagnies d'aviation vont se trouver en grande difficult� ...

What is this amazing creature? (haha!) - maybe a strange new butterfly.
There are now quite a few A380s parked in the Australian desert where it is ultra dry (also in American deserts too).
One for wishful dreaming. Good sharp capture.

Hello Luciano,

Nice view of this Emirates aeroplane. Emirates are the best Airlines, in my opinion. I returned from Singapore with them.
When I was in Dubai in autumn, there were the advertisements for the Expo everywhere. They planned to build some new extravagant edifices. They expected that there would be a great interest and good income. I wonder how it will result.

Don't those orange and red dots on the plane look a bit like a virus? ;-)
A nice and sharp shot. Who knows when this flight will be restarted, and who knows when that expo will finally take place? Or the Olympic games? Nobody knows how long this nightmare will last, and all plans for the future of business and sports and holidays seem just like wishful thinking.

Hello Luciano,
I'm not a big fan of airplanes or airports ... but they both help me getting to the places I dream of.
At the moment I don't even dare to dream of new destinations.
I suppose that meanwhile you must be looking out very impatiently to experience new adventures. Is this currently the longest time ever that you could not travel?
I have flown only once with Emirates and that was recently in March when I had to leave Thailand suddenly to return back home. So, in a way I'm very glad that I've been able to buy that ticket with Emirates.
It seems like you were on an elevated place when you took this photo.

Captured well from a relative distant POV, majestic appearance of this Airbus 380.
One remark though: lot's of backlight from this side where taken this picture - always try to be with the sun at you back, when taking planes pictures, it has a big effect upon the outcome.

A good photo of this plane, whose orange colours of the Expo advertisement stand out well from the blue sky. Who would have thought a year ago that this event, just like so many others, would have to be postponed.

What a thoughtful dedication.
Do you wonder how many planes will still be in operation after the Covid outbreak!
The health of the planet has improved with the lack of pollution from planes and road traffic, even though things seem very black for us as a species!

Anyway, it's a fine photograph of the heading towards Milan Airport, nice and sharp, considering the speed of the plane!

curious you have an image of this jet with the add of this cancelled event. yes, many events were cancelled, such things will be the last to go back to the normal while supermarkets and drugstores never closed.

Luciano, this Emirates aircraft was flying above Milan region. Its hull is decorated in tribute to the expo 2020. You re prompt to click quickly and captured the plane seen from below. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Luciano,
A rare view today such an airplane in the sky. I cycled near Schiphol yesterday and saw only one plane landing while "in the past" a plane landed every 2 to 3 minutes.
Frankly, it is a lot quieter and the air a lot cleaner, but our annual trip name USA and Canada is not possible now.

I visited Dubai a year ago and also took photos of Emirates planes with this paint scheme. Yes times have changed, and these planes are grounded. And Airbus A380, the biggest one of them all is hardest to fill.
