Pantheon Dome and Oculus

I posted a photo of the exterior of the Pantheon in Rome earlier this week. Here is a photo of the interior of the famous dome. It is a large coffered concrete dome with a central opening to the sky (oculus). The height to the oculus and the diameter of the dome are both 43 metres. Built in the 2nd century AD, it is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. The oculus was very brightly overexposed, so I decreased the brightness by 50%.

Hello Lars, the first question is...How did they build it?
Remarkable, in 2nd century AD.
By decreasing the brightness we are able to see the wonderful pattern created in making the Dome and the Oculus.
Excellent sharpness.

Love the meticulous symmetrical framing, I think it's hard to do as there's no straight horizontals. Love the light - under quite a challenging exposure with adequate detail and colour.

Hello Lars,

The wonderful experience of standing under the oculus is difficult to express in a photograph! But this is just as good as it gets! I like how the 3D depth of the repeating squares gives the impression of a pattern.

Lars, the photo presents architectural details of Pantheon interior in Rome. The light is coming from the oculus inside the building. This dome is impressive. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

I guess I never had seen an image of this ceiling, so famous. amazing view with the square patters around the hole. a nice control of this difficult light.

Jag gl鰉de n鋝tan den h鋜 bilden. Den 鋜 fint beskuren och taket 鋜 fantastiskt, b錮e till utseendet och med tanke p� konstruktionen. H錶et med det direkta ljuset g鰎 en perfekt exponering n鋝tan om鰆lig, men efter omst鋘digheterna gjorde du ett bra jobb. Det 鋜 inte l鋞t att justera ett urvattnat parti.

Excellent photo with perfect symmetry, sharpness and good control of the brightness of the oculus. It is the first photo I see of this dome and this perspective. I knew this dome from documentaries. I am impressed by the advanced engineering for that time and this bold project even by today's standards.

Niet eenvoudig om fotograferen met het licht dat binnenvalt.
Je foto toont ons echter heel duidelijk hoe het interieur van de grote koepel van het gekende Pantheon er uit ziet.
Een bij velen veel minder gekend beeld.

this is the essence of the Pantheon! Very well presented.
Quite a unique structure. There are so many super interesting places in Rome to see. Pantheon is one of them.
The photo at first is causing some disorientation but for those who know it is continuation of reportage from Rome and those who visited the city, it makes a perfect sense.

Ook deze prachtige koepel kan ik mij nog goed herinneren van mijn bezoek aan Rome. En als ik mij niet vergis hebben we toen ook de akoestische kwaliteit ervan getest.
Helaas wat minder populair bij onze mede TE-leden.
