San Salvatore rock church - Vallerano (VT)

It is what today remains of a small Benedictine monastery dug into the tuff, after the catastrophic detachment of a ridge of rock which, in 1888, split the rock environments in two.
It is located on a high cliff that runs along the Rio delle Cannucce about one kilometer, in a north-easterly direction, from the town of Vallerano. Along this wall a long series of figures is frescoed: the Virgin and Child is flanked by three holy martyrs Lucia, Agnes and Sofia, first two on the left and the third on the right, now no longer legible, crown fans to the Madonna and Child, follow three Benedictine saints Benedict, Mauro and Placido.
