Rock settlement of ArcellarnIn the locality of Arcella, along a tufaceous ridge that slopes down towards the Rio Francina between altitudes 649 and 621, a complex of rooms dug into the tuff can be seen, showing evident signs of anthropic adaptation. The environments, for which both the antiquity and the original function remain uncertain, show, inside and outside, clear signs of their recent use as stables or warehouses for agricultural tools. Dates, crosses and the monogram of Christ are engraved on some walls, suggesting occasional use as a hermit settlement.rnOf particular interest is the first room, which is accessed through a low opening with an approximately square shape. The presence of large niches along the walls, particularly evident along the left one, would seem to suggest an original funeral or ritual destination. A cross is engraved in one of the niches on the right wall which is smaller than those on the opposite wall. On the back wall there is a large rectangular niche in which the date 1716 is engraved. This must be an exciting place to explore. Lucky for you the entrance seems to be quite closely behind you, so the light made it possible to take photos without a flash. This view looks very natural, and the photo is also very sharp.

Hello Silvio,
A great and clear photo of this ancient cave dwelling. There was enough light to show the details and textures of the walls and ceiling and their different colours.
