Church of San Giovanni in Apollo called a Pollo - Bassano Romano (VT)
The church of San Giovanni in Apollo called a Pollo is the main element of the homonymous rock nucleus which is located in the Rovignola ditch between Sutri and Bassano Romano. The complex, consisting of a series of rooms excavated on the vertical side of a tufaceous hill, is now completely detached from the road layout, takes place on the front of a hill, along the valley, hinged on the central element, the church. The origin of the name of this ancient church, now reduced to a warehouse for agricultural tools, is controversial, for some it represents yet another graft between pagan worship, for the god Apollo and the Christian one. More likely it derives from a deformation of the name Paolo, in all likelihood the church was in fact entitled to Saints John and Paul. Hello Silvio,
Church? This looks like another barn! ;-) There is such a thick carpet of plants in front of it that hardly anyone could easily get inside the building. But you had a fine light on the fa鏰de and there are interesting niches in the wall to the left.

An interesting old Church now use for agricultural storage out of the rain. Good sharpness and a nice green carpet of plants. Tfs!

Direct sun light on the old church entrance small gate.
It enhanced contrast on the photo.
Interesting the sealed arches on the rock, left side.

It seems so sad that a church, with such an aged history, should be reduced as a store for agricultural tools!
You have captured for us its historic facade, bathed in warm sunlight, whilst the strange recesses on the l/h wall, are mostly in shadows.
