Annunciation - Benozzo Gozzoli - Eroli Museum of Narni (TR) The work, executed between 1449 and 1452 and signed by the Florentine painter, is of uncertain commission. Perhaps it was commissioned by the Eroli family, but the column in the center of the table is adorned with two heart-shaped leaves: instead of the three that make up the Eroli coat of arms. The work was located in the church of San Domenico in Narni, therefore it could have been commissioned by the same Dominican friars who own the church. Canes or the friars of San Domenico.rnThe work, damaged by humidity with the detachment of part of the painting, was then restored and transferred to the Eroli Museum, where we see it today.rnThe work is characterized by the sprigs of mistletoe painted on the blanket of the Virgin's bed, symbol of the Passion of Christ; the two keys of the dresser of Maria's bed that extend their shadow on the dresser itself; the white lilies, symbol of purity, in the hands of the angel and on the lawn of Mary's house; of white roses, also a symbol of purity. In various parts of the painting pure gold worked with leaf is used.

As usual there is quite a lot of damage, but enough remains to show us what a beautiful painting it is with these two gracious figures and the fantastic warm tones. I am not surprised to find that this is a work by one of the masters of the time. You handled the light well with only some minor reflection on the left side.

A good and well-framed photo of this ancient work of art. Parts are worn-off, but it still looks clear and has got lots of appealing colours, especially the golden parts.

its tile is...annunciation....
so ancient from 1449 and 1452
signs by the florentine painter....
as usual there is a lot of damage
lets hope that soon this excellent
work will be renovated again

Very attractive ancient painting but I also like how you have presented it. THe left side seems to reflect the light and it allows us to see the details of the rough surface of the painting.

This is a very beautiful fresco and must have been even more amazing when first painted, without the damage that we see today. You have shown us a very good, detailed photograph. The details are so good and the painting so well represented that the fabrics and hair seem 3D.
