Today is the turn of the "Vanessa cardui", also quite common, but very variable, almost impossible to find in some years and very popular this year. This species has the ability to migrate and usually spends the winters only in the tropical belt and sometimes in the warmer southern areas of the Mediterranean (for example in Sicily), but in spring, and sometimes again in autumn, it migrates. For example, we see it moving from North Africa and the Mediterranean to southern and central Europe up to Great Britain in the months of May and June.

Oggi � il turno della "Vanessa cardui" , anche questa abbastanza comune, ma molto variabile, quasi introvabile in certe anni e molto diffusa quest'anno. Questa specie ha la capacit� di migrare ed � solita passare gli inverni solo nella fascia tropicale e a volte nelle aree meridionali del Mediterraneo pi� calde (ad esempio in Sicilia), ma in primavera, e talvolta nuovamente in autunno, migra. Ad esempio la vediamo spostarsi dal Nord Africa e dal Mediterraneo all'Europa meridionale e centrale fino ad arrivare alla Gran Bretagna nei mesi di maggio e giugno.

You and your butterflies are really in a good shape now. ;-) This is stunningly beautiful - for the colours, composition and sharpness. I find the note about its migration so interesting that I looked for more information on the net. If I understand it correctly, those that finish a yearlong "return flight" between for instance Africa and central Europe could be the great, great, great grandchildren of those who started out on the journey!

Another superb close-up photo of such a wonderful butterfly. The shapes and details of its wings are wonderful and also the bit of orange stands out really well, just as the purple of the flower. Well done.

I saw the butterfly of silvio few seconds ago, yours have more eyes in the wings, but not so strong as the butterfly he posted.lovely the rusty hues breaking the grey mood of the rest of the wings.

Hello Luciano, the shallow depth of field works perfectly here, the sharp focusing on the body of the insect and the clover flower are particularly good.

I know the butterflies have wings but I am quite surprised to hear that they can fly over a sea! THat is quite a distance and there are strong winds on the way.
