Pluto
I continue with the series of "Monsters of Bomarzo", I will still have some for a few days.
The gigantic frowning and bearded figure seated with a sea monster on his right with gaping jaws is of doubtful attribution. There are those who refer to him as Neptune, the god of the sea, and those who instead consider him Pluto, god of the underworld. In fact, the showy cornucopia of which it boasts (Pluto was considered a rich god), the proximity of the great Orc with the wide open mouth that evokes the Dante's entrance, the presence, at a short distance, of the dog Cerberus, guardian of the Underworld, and of his wife Proserpina would suggest precisely the second hypothesis. In this "hellish" and "enchanted" area of the Parco Vicino, he probably wanted some quotations from the Liberated Jerusalem: Pluto, in Tasso's work, calls his acolytes together and invites them to move against the Christian army "now by force, or by deception "; the sorceress Armida, depicted near Pluto as the naked sleeping woman, is one of those who accept this invitation.

Hello Silvio,
Another good photo of one of the Roman gods. The details and textures of the old weather-beaten sculpture are clearly seen in a nice pattern of shadows and some soft sunlight.

Hello Silvio,
The artist didn't give this god - whoever he is - a perfect, idealized body. Maybe an ordinary, fat man was his model. It's another interesting sculpture and you had a smooth and even light in this place.
