慚atka - The outdoor destination near Skopje�

Lake Matka and the canyon make an easy day trip from the Macedonian capital.
You can hike and take boat trips in an overwhelming natural environment and that only half an hour or about 16 kilometers from Skopje. There抯 even a regular bus connection.

The lake is manmade by damming the river Treska in 1937.
In the beginning of the gorge near the Saint Andrew (Sveti Andrej) Church and the monastery of Sveta Bogorodica it can still be quite busy. At least in the month of July.
Quite a few visitors linger here. Some take a boat trip.
If you continue to follow the path along the water, you will soon find yourself alone in the beautiful surroundings.

This is my last picture of the country of North Macedonia (ex Macedonia FYR, ex Yugoslavia).
In total I showed 50 photos (and quite a few in the WS).
Since several places of this small and welcoming country in the heart of the Balkans are still relatively unknown to many travellers, I抳e tried to show something more than the classic Skopje, Matka and Ohrid. (I agree in the end I was tempted to show many photos of Ohrid)

Hello Paul,
This makes me disappointed. I was expecting you to continue up to 100 posts from Macedonia. You could easily have been there already if you hadn't given away so many bonus photos for free.
But today we get five photos of a spectacular scenery, some including people in boats and one also featuring a church, boats, people and flowers. Your excursion was blessed with fine weather which created nice colours.

Hallo Paul,
De natuur ziet er hier prachtig uit (op dit moment wordt de Nederlandse versie van De Mol vanuit Albani� uitgezonden, daar zijn ook van die prachtige landschappen te zien, net zoals in Noord-Macedoni�). De rotsen steken mooi af tussen de bomen en de verticale compositie werkt goed, vooral in de voorgrond met de steile wand links en het kalme water rechts.

Ziveo sam u Kumanovu za vreme Jugoslavije, isao sam vise puta u Skopje, ostalo mi je u lepom secanju.
Lep pogled, interesantan tekst ...
lepa priroda, dobro pokazana sa lepim bojama, kontrastom i perspektivom.

Hello Paul,
The sheer cliff added a sense of depth, double meaning, when looking at the main phpoto.
Vegetation and green color of the water, the narrow (dangerous) trail on the side - made the scen so attractive.

Hi Paul,
Great series again. It is nice to know that near the capital you can make such a photogenic trip in the nature.
Amazing natural colors. I am impressed with the trail path which was clearly made in the mountain, cut into it.
Beautiful spot, great series of photos. By the way "matka" means "mother" in Polish, I think it may be similar in Macedonian.
I really enjoyed your reportage as from a very interesting destination, culturally similar to Polish and yet different.
Not a remote destination and yet one which I will probably not visit anytime soon.

Hello Paul,

Stunning scenery, very well composed to show the textural differences. It would have been the icing on the cake to have captured a tourist on the fenced pathway but, the pathway itself works well.
What an interesting walk, following the lake, to experience the beauty of the church, the landscapes and the activities. Did you try the kayaking?
You had lovely weather for this outing.

Hello Paul 50 photos are quite a lot for Northern Macedonia.(of course, one have to multiply it, as sometimes you show even 4 Workshops). I have 11 main photos from two trips.
Beautiful views from the Matka Gorge. (the name sounds strange to me, as in Polish, matka is a mother). I went by boat to the beautiful cave. It would be nice to go here, but I think I would be afraid even with this protection.
I found there many books with Tito amusing.
