Sliema - Church of our Lady of Mount Carmel, by night.

Sliema is a town in Malta, on a peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta. Sliema and the coastline up to St. Julian's is Malta's main coastal resort and is ringed with modern apartment blocks.
Sliema got its name from the Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel, that now no longer exists. It periodically served as a reference point for the sailors and fishermen in Marsamxett Harbour. The name could thus be connected with the first words of the Hail Mary prayer, which in Maltese is "Sliem Għalik Marija". Sliem is the Maltese word meaning peace. The construction age of the church is unknown but it was included in a map by the Order of St. John even before being handed the Maltese islands to them.

Malta, officially known as the Republic of Malta (Maltese: Repubblika ta' Malta), is a Southern European island country consisting of an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. It lies 80 km south of Italy, 284 km east of Tunisia, and 333 km north of Libya. The country covers just over 316 km2, with a population of just under 450,000 (despite an extensive emigration programme since the Second World War), making it one of the world's smallest and most densely populated countries. The capital of Malta is Valletta, which at 0.8 km2, is the smallest national capital in the European Union. Malta has two official languages: Maltese and English.

The white illuminated church's fa鏰de stand out shining on this night scene, Krzysztof. Taken on the curve of the waterfront promenade, with lights reflected upon water, and excellent clear details. People along the road are very notable on the scene.

Yours is an interesting note. We stopped in Malta on a cruise about 15 years ago. Impressive structures on the island as I recall from our tour there.

I really like this night shot of the Chapel or church. as it stands out so well in the night. This is primarily due to your fine composition of this photo. Moreover, the darkness of the waters in the foreground are a great contrast to the white church. Well done. Regards.

Wow! Wonderful nightshot with the white church standing out strongly against the darker water and sky.
Also a good contrast with the other buildings that have a brown-yellow colour.
The white of the church facade is well reflected in the water.

I remember photographing this same church :)

the church is a strong focal point and the other details and colours of the waterfront create an intriguing scenery. I like very much the curve and the diagonal of the quay, they lead our glance in a decisive way. The dark colours are appealing too and create a sense of mystery. My favourite part is the bright and colourful reflections, the abstract image and the motion they create. Congratulations and thank you!

troszeczke za pozno sie juz tam znalazles. Blue hour ale troche spoznione dlatego wieze kosciola juz gina w czerni nieba.
Nie mniej bardzo wizualnie atrakcyjne.
W szczegolnosci fale na pierwszym planie dodaja uroku.
Przyjemne miejsce na spacer.

Dear Krzysztof,

This is a beautiful and tranquil scene, really well photographed..
I like how you have been able to include just a hint of the curved steps which links together bright water reflections and the reality of the buildings. Of course, the white facade, with its strong illumination, is the main focal point and though centrally placed, still makes a good composition. Sometimes rules are made to be broken.
