Budva Old Town, a photo from Budva, South

Photographer's Note

Located along the southern coast of Montenegro is the delightful, 'mini Dubrovnik' styled town of Budva. My only gripe was the lack of sandy beaches (stony) but the town has a pier with deep water where people can swim without fear of stepping on painful sea urchins and their jagged, black spines. If you don't use the pier it's like walking through a minefield, because there are so many sea urchins on the sea floor. Even though the water was gin clear, I still preferred to use the pier.

Hello Chris,
A wonderful view of the city and the sea and mountains in the background. I really like how the vertical composition includes both the sunlit church and orange roofs as well as the cloudy mountains. It adds a really appealing and strong contrast. Very well captured.

Hello Chris,
Your high vantage point gives a beautifully varied complete picture of Budva.
The old town on the foreground, the hilly landscape in the background and therewith new buildings and the harbour.

Hello Chris,
The old part of Budva is quite pretty, as this photo shows, but I didn't find the city generally as charming as Kotor, or even Ulcinj. But you found a perfect vantage point where we get a great view of the red brick roofs and the church tower, with the sea and hilly surroundings in the background. The colours are very strong and attractive.

Hello Chris,

Dubrovnik immediately came to mind when I saw your photograph.
There is a similarity though probably not so crowded.
The red-roofed houses make an attractive f/g, with the church tower strongly placed on the thirds line.
The cloud covered mountains make a dramatic b/g, whilst, by comparison, the f/g looks bright and cheerful.

I get the feeling this one is going to be very popular for you, and why not, its great. you must be happy with the end result here. NO need for me to worry about the sea urchins, as I can't swim and don't enjoy the water anyways haha. Do you have any photos of that pier? love this view too, its so bright and colourful to start with. There's something of value to us viewers all the way from top to bottom, great shot. cheers

Looks like there is plenty of medieval interest in Budva to keep you away from dodgy beaches but some people (possibly yourself?) can't help themselves. A good photo of the old town.

Hi Chris,
I stayed in a hotel in Sveti Stefan but I visited Budva one evening for a walk. Sadly the sun was behind clouds and my photos from Budva are not the best. Nevertheless I enjoyed a walk there.
I have not been to this viewpoint. Very nice!

Wonderful view of this Mediterranean city. Lovely building s with the red roofs, nice church tower. Beautiful view of the bay on the other side.
I was on the island of Losinj 40 years ago who was then 8 years old. He was fascinated with the sea urchins. He made mini pools and made mini aquariums with them. These black ones with long spines were very beautiful. Someone told us that they were poisonous. Other ones could be eaten (wrrr). And swimming in the salty water of Adriatic is fantastic.

An enchanting location beautifully captured and certainly worth climbing all the way to the top of a fortress for this amazing view! The brightly lit red roof houses and the spire are attractive elements to hold the image together. The colours and contrasting tones set it off superbly. Lovely
