The successful pregnancy and birth of an elephant in Rotterdam zoo recently was more than welcome in these crucial times for a zoo to be able to make ends meet. Let's hope little Radjik can help to pull in the crowds during the summer.

Hello Elaine,
This is a superb composition, probably resulting from a combination of luck and knowing how to look for the right angle and right moment.
Let's hope little Radjik will be able to live as well as an elephant in captivity can live.

Hi Elaine,
this is such a beautiful photograph! It could well pretend to be taken in Africa.
The play of the light and shadow is amazing here. The underbelly of the parent makes a fantastic framing for the little fellow.
And it is caught in such a lovely pose.
I know the zoos are not fashionable these days. I should not speak here because I have a Guinea pig at home which is probably quite cruel anyway.
I think still zoo is the only option for me to see some of those magnificent animals.
I remember recently seeing our Namibian friend writing a comment that if we don't protect nature our children will not be able to see elephants in wilderness anymore. And then I thought: I cannot afford to go to a country to see an elephant in wild already.
So the fact that they exist out there but I cannot see them is not a great consolation for me.
Excellent work here!
They should use it to advertise the zoo!

Wat een schatje , Baby Radjik ! The look of pure innocent.

Welcome to the real world.....but you're safe and sound under your Mummy arms and legs ( almost ):-)
The timing and composition are spot on. Excellent sharpness - so sharp I can even see the baby hairs !!!
I'm sure if he can flies like the 'Flying Jumbo' , he'll attract a lot of crowds during the summer :-)
Well, I'm pretty sure he'll be famous in no time with a cute baby face like that :-)

I wonder if this little guy will ever be released into the wild...probably not because what would happen to the social structure of their family...elephants are very social an intelligent that way. excellent shot, its humurous and well composed. cheers

Hello Elaine, an excellent introduction to this little fellow!
Seen through the legs of the adults, it helps us to realise just how large these creatures are.
Perfect timing, you couldn't have wished for better framing of the baby elephant.

This is such a sweet portrait. The baby elephant looks so innocent, and I like the way he is taking shelter beneath the larger legs of the adults. The play of light and shadow is subtle and lovely, and the focus is excellent. Take care!
