Photographer's Note
My grandfather was a pilot for KLM. As anyone at that time he was very proud to work for KLM (that's what makes my familys blood 'blue') and being a pilot was his life.
When I lived with my grandmother a few months ago I loved sitting in my grandfather's studyroom. I believe I inherited my love for (old) books from him. Sitting in that room where he spend a lot of his time reading and studying makes me feel at home. As for now, the study room is the only room that 100% reminds me of him as my grandmother barely comes here.
While sitting is in one of his reading-chairs his two uniform hats caught my attention. They were carefully placed on a pile of old books in front worldmap which fully covers one of the walls. I just had to take a shot (mostly because I had just received my 350D I bought on Ebay)
Because of the bad lighting conditions in the study (it really is such an old fashioned room with dark interior and nothing but a few lights to read) I had to upgrade this shot in Photoshop using curves, USM and adjusting the colours.

Hi Lieke. This brings back memories from visits to my grandparents place as a youngster too. Good composition which is well arranged and presented. TFS. Murray.

Hello Liekje,
Nice little assebly of a pair of hats of Captain of KLM plane and captain of a ship, with a backdrop of the map of South America. The note is engaging. The Royal Dutch Airlines was always one of my favorites.
In 1984, I climbed Mt. Ararat in Eastern Turkey, on a dubious expedition in search of Noah's Ark. (The astronaut James Irwin was on the expedition. Then, when all kinds of publicity hit the world's press, and I was flying back to the US, the KLM Captain commanding the flight, invited me to the cockpit, where we chatted for the better part of an hour. It was a memorable flight for me, and one that gave me a different perspective — of course, impossible to do nowadays with all the security concerns.
Warm regards,
Bulent
