This is the platform and the light shaft above one ot the two exit areas of subway station Parkweg in Schiedam on the Beneluxlijn of the RET (literally: Rotterdam Electric Tram), the Rotterdam municipal transport service. It was designed by Hans van Heeswijk. In contrast to the stations of the other two Rotterdam subway lines, every station was allotted it抯 own independent architect. Every architect was asked to choose his own way to make a good connection between the subway and its surroundings. The common denominator of the stations is that they抮e designed to be light, make people feel secure and to prevent undesirable actions. Most stations have island-platforms. The main feature of this station is it抯 four massive ellipsoid glass light shafts.

In this picture the underpass of Beurs station of the oldest Rotterdam subway-line (the Erasmus line) is displayed.
