Mill Gate, a photo from Pomorskie, West

Photographer's Note

The tall building in this photo is an old town gate of Słupsk, called Mill Gate (Brama Młyńska) due to the fact that there is an old water mill next to it. From the angle which I selected here, the gate looks less photogenic than from the front because the most decorative part of it is hidden behind the tree, but on that time of the day I thought this spot looked better from this POV, especially in the context of other old stylish buildings.

Wikipedia says that the old town of Słupsk was deliberately destroyed by the fire set by the 搇iberating� Red Army in 1945 after the front retreat, meaning there was no strategic need for it...

Słupsk was a frequent guest on TrekEarth in the past because one of the very active TE members, Henryk_Bilor, was from this town. Henryk was active on TE before my time, so I think we have never exchanged any comments.

Hello Mariusz,

I think you chose a fine view from which to photograph the mill. It links beautifully with the surrounding buildings and takes advantage of the trees and bushes to soften any sense of austerity.
The clarity is spot on, with lovely, well saturated colours.

Hello Mariusz,

Punchy light contrasts with vibrant colours and excellent sharpness and framing. There was no need for the Red Army to set fire to this town. Tfs!

A great shot of this old town gate. I really like how it is surrounded on both sides by those appealing houses with some half-timbered elements and some tall pine trees. Excellent composition and all is seen in such a pleasant sunlight.

I liked the presence of the pine tree at side of the tower, as a competition between them. the other buildings added nice samples of local architecture.

This town has fantastic places to photograph, which by the way are the first I see of this place.
This brick tower is beautiful, which was one of the entrances to the city, the setting is ideal with the new half-timbered houses, maintaining the atmosphere, the abundant trees contrast very well with the red bricks and tiles.

Krotkie wakacje w Polsce tez juz w tym roku miales. Swietnie pokazana stara architektura Slupska. Faktycznie w porownaniu do wielkosci miasta ma ono z dawnych czasow wiele postow za sprawa aktywnych na TE mieszkancow.
