Blue hour to the rescue, a photo from Madeira, Islands

Photographer's Note

Taking photos at the blue hour is a good way to deal with bad weather on your trip. I remember my trip to Berlin in 2001. It was my first trip with a newly purchased Canon camera (pre-digital yet). The weather was rubbish, but I came back from that trip with many good photos taken by night. During my recent holidays on Madeira, on four out of six evenings I was taking blue hour photos. Unless it rains, the blue hour offers a chance to be independent from the cloudy dull sky.

In this photo you can see a waterfront promenade in Funchal, the main town on Madeira. The tower marks the Funchal Cathedral (S� Catedral do Funchal). Church interiors are also a good option for the bad weather, unless they are under renovation like it was the case for the Funchal Cathedral.

Hello Mariusz,
The question is how we can make the blue hour last longer during rainy days :)
Or is this an encouragement to get up early and also enjoy the morning blue hour?
The white houses with their red roofs spread over the dark hills look magnificent.
Good sharp and clear picture with much depth.

Hello Mariusz,
The fascinating town houses lights gave excellent contrastingh tones to the blue hour hue's. You might had to find a higher spot to climb or stand upon in order to lessen the effect of the concrete breakwater pieces, but probably no bench or ramp available over the pier.
The precise spot on the map, where you took this picture is at
32.64638, -16.903, just checked it on my map.

Hi Mariusz

The same design of 3 part concrete blocks dovetailing into one another can be seen at many coastal locations around South Korea. A superb blue hour that proves any weather is suitable for getting a good shot. Nice warm cold colour contrasts and good sharpness. Tfs!

You captured the blue hour well here. The warm colours of the lights contrast nicely with the cool colours of the sky an foreground. The graffiti on the concrete block in the foreground adds some interest and colour.

A beautiful view of the town in evening. The many golden lights look great and they are very nicely surrounded by the dark blue tones of the sky in in the foreground as well. Superb sharpness and clarity.

Poznaje ten pierwszy plan z twojego poprzedniego zdjecia. To jest jednak zupelnie inne, bez odbic w wodzie, ale za to z katedra, ktora jest bardzo waznym elementem drugiego planu i calego kadru. Jak zwykle piekne swiatlo i kolory.
Mimo nienajlepszej pogody zrobiles naprawde duzo dobrych zdjec w czasie tak krotkiego wyjazdu.
Jak na ironie - Madera znowu na zielonej liscie od przyszlego tygodnia.

I liked the result. I can recognize the cathedral too.I guess the hills ahead hadn't so much houses when I visited the island. nice use of these structures in FG. I wasa curious about the words on it (... extra long) but I can't read the first word.
