Funchal from East to West, a photo from Madeira, Islands

Photographer's Note

As mentioned before, I tried to find a POV which would show the panorama of Funchal with the Igreja de S鉶 Gon鏰lo in the foreground. I showed you already the view, which was the best I managed, but sadly I drove too much down and although I got the church in the foreground the panorama was a bit hidden behind. After taking that photo I went a bit further to the right to capture the panorama itself without the church. It is more boring than the previous picture with the church but it gives a better impression of the Funchal. If you remember the shape of the Funchal Cathedral tower, you may be able to find it in this view. This photo has the advantage that it is closer to the town than the view from Pico dos Barcelos but it was taken a bit later so the whole scene is darker, although the sky behind is where the sun set so it is lit slightly longer.

I like all of these blue hour shots. This one has terrific reflections in the harbour and wonderful warm illumination from the city lights. Plus some nice post sunset colours in the sky & perfect sharpness! Nothing to complain about! Tfs!

What a fantastic view of the golden city near the dark sea. Also the mostly silver tones near the waterfront look great and add a nice contrast. The evening sky is a wonderful backdrop.

Apparently there are a lot of places in Funchal that lend themselves excellently to both panoramas and blue hour photos.
Also this photo looks great!
I like the view of the harbour with the long pier into the ocean and the long reflected lights in the water.
In the foreground we find a splendid alternation of red roofs and white facades. Further on there are more taller buildings.
Well composed and an attractive sky with lighter and darker coloured areas.

Another fantastic night shot from Funchal. This place is certainly worth for several uploads. Lights are well in balance and there are interesting details all over the frame.

The warm tones of the many illuminated houses, the port and far side hills looks marvelous at night. The high POV was superbly chosen for the scene.

in this image we can see the bed where the baby village was founded 600 years ago and as it invaded the areas around. nice the intense golden lights.

Another excellent night photograph which reveals a fine composition, detailing the most exquisite colours and reflections.
I just love how the night sky and the dark sea fill the space around the colourful buildings.
You had the settings exactly right on your camera!
