Photographer's Note

Another winter view of Alentejo, the region that occupies much of the South of Portugal.

This field is used mainly to graze sheep and goats. The region is famous for its cheese made with the milk of those animals, which eat mostly, if not exclusively, grass and not those artificial food so widely used these days. Every 8 to 10 years, the owners of the land earn a considerable sum of money (at least compared with their average) by selling cork, which is the rind of those trees (cork oaks) that are seen on the photo.
