Our Lady of Loreto, a photo from Evora, South

Photographer's Note

I've already posted several photos of Juromenha and its church, devoted to Our Lady of Loreto, but I've never shown it inside, so here we can see what's left of it! This is the Church devoted to Nossa Senhora do Loreto, situated within the walls of the Fortress of Juromenha ( a village in the Alentejo). This fortress is situated very close to the Guadiana River and to Spain and what we see today date from several different periods. It has played an important role along its history, especially during the Moorish period. Withing the walls, we can still find the ruins of three churches, including this one,dating from the 13th century and devoted to Nossa Senhora do Loreto.

Ol� Ana, estou planejando visitar Portugal em 2015, mas devo fazer um roteiro mais b醩ico incluindo Lisboa, Coimbra, Porto e Povoa de Varzim (cidade de meu bisavo por parte de m鉫). Evora pelo que vi fica mais para o centro do pais e deve ent鉶 ficar para outra viagem.

il luogo � assai suggestivo e la tua ripresa perfetta ne ha evidenziato molto bene questo aspetto con l'aiuto di una illuminazione particolarmente efficace, che hai saputo utilizzare nella migliore delle maniere.
Peccato che la suggestione del luogo venga rovinata dalla presenza di scritte sul muro che evidenziano il vandalismo di visitatori ignoranti.
Splendidi i colori ed eccezionale la nitidezza. Eccellente il contrasto-

What an incredible place. To look at these peeling and fading walls, is to look back through time itself. Even as I look at the fine column, from its intricate detail at the top, then scroll down to see the base having deteriorated, I can see how the most ornate place in the world will someday become no more than a pile of stones. There is amazing light in this place too, and the remaining blue colors on the walls are a lovely color touch.

Is that graffiti on the walls behind? I am not sure what it actually says, so it could equally be architects or archeologists marks.

Beautiful historic sight, brimming with atmosphere of times past.

wonderful indoor photo.
the side lighting is actually very sweet and well exposed. It's as if you have a stage hand off to the right holding up a light for you :)
I'm a big fan of these textured type of photos.

Looking at what left in this interior I am pretty sure that this must be a beautiful church in the past. So sad that it is currently in such a poor conditions. Anyway, you did a great job with light management and composition to achieve a nice moody view. Like it! TFS!

Hello Ana,
this is a fascinating photo of the interior of the ruined church. The way you illuminated this intriguing and melancholic setting of abandonment and decay is admirable. Depth and clarity are stunning and a lovely play of light highlights details and textures and guides our glance around the frame. The shadows are suggestive.
