Bazna Fortified Church

Transylvania is home to lots of so-called fortified churches and I saw several of them as well. Here抯 an example from the village of Bazna. The first Romanesque church was built in 13th century and was later rebuilt in Gothic style. The fortifications were added in the 16th century.

Jag s錱 flera s� kallade saxiska byar med bef鋝ta kyrkor i trakten kring Sighisoara, men h鋜 var jag inte. Den h鋜鋜 verkligen storslagen, och vyn nedifr錸鋜 v鋖digt effektfull. Trappan leder blicken hela v鋑en upp. De andra byggnaderna ger bilden en fin inramning.

Hi Lars,
That really looks more like a castle than a church. And is quite impressive. Steep angle up the stairs makes this probably mightier than it actually is. Walls on both sides give nice symmetry.

unusual stairs with the gate acting as a big mouth. very beautiful tower mixing stone and timber. I liked these imposing structures. an excellent sample of the local architecture.

Good evening Lars,
The church was built up on the prominent spot in town, I assume, as in most places. That's gave the picture a good sense of height and depth, with the usual clear outcome.

There is a lot of distortion on the sides of the photo but the central part is fine and provides a very impressive view of the church. The stairs provide a good leading line up the hill.

Hello Lars, a fortified church? Something that we do not hear of, or see every day!
You managed a very good point of view looking up the hill, with the steps leading our eyes straight to the front door.
It is a very interesting building.

Hi Lars,
Beautiful destination indeed. I remember when I watched with my daughter the animated children movie "Hotel Transylvania" and I told her it is a real place, she was so surprised. I intended to take her for Halloween there but I have too many ideas and not enough resources ha ha
Great composition with the stairway nicely leading us to the entrance uphill.
The tower quite unique with some wooden elements adding a nice touch.

Hello Lars, These fortified churches of Transylvania are very interesting and beautiful, a bit like castles. I saw some of them but unfortunately not this one. Excellent presetation. Fantastic towers.

Hi Lars,

A great view of this old church with its distinctive square tower. It looks very Transylvanian, even though I don't know anything about Transylvanian architecture. The point of view works well, looking up the stairs to the entrance. Excellent sharpness and composition.
