Monastery Ravanica under snow, a photo from Serbia, North

Photographer's Note

Izgrađena između 1375 i 1377, Ravanica je poznata Fondacije kneza Lazara, gde je sahranjen nakon njegove smrti u Kosovskoj bici. Od tada, Ravanice je destinacija hodočasnika i va瀗o sredi歵e kulturnih aktivnosti i skup歵ina srpskog naroda. manastir je napadnut i o歵ećena od strane Turaka vi歟 puta, u 1386, 1398 i 1436. U velikom ratu nakon druge opsade Beča broj monaha je poginulo, a ostatak od njih, u 1690, su mo歵i svetog kneza Lazara povlačenja, ispred turske ofanzive. Samo u 1717 jedini pre瀒veo među monasima, Učitelj Stefana vratio u Ravanici i na歛o manastir opljačkan i napu歵en. Uz pomoć lokalnog stanovni歵va on je obnovio manastir i sagradio novu pripratu. Manastir je ponovio napada tokom srpske revolucije, na početak 19. veka. Novi obnove odr瀉na je u sredinom 19. veka. Tokom Drugog svetskog rata Nemci su prekr歩li i o歵ećenih manastira jo� jednom, i pritvoreni, mučeni i ubijani svoje arhimandrita Makarija 24. februara 1943.

Built between 1375 and 1377, Ravanica is the famous Prince Lazar's foundation, where he was buried after his death in the Kosovo battle. Since then, Ravanica has been a pilgrim's destination and an important center of cultural activities and the Serbian people's assemblies. The monastery has been assaulted and damaged by the Turks several times, in 1386, 1398 and 1436. In the great war after the second siege of Vienna a number of monks got killed and the rest of them, in 1690, took the relics of the sainted Prince Lazar withdrawing, in front of the Turkish offensive. Only in 1717 the only survived among the monks, Teacher Stefan came back in Ravanica and found the monastery looted and deserted. With the help of the local inhabitants he restored the monastery and built a new narthex. The monastery suffered repeated assaults during the Serbian revolution, at the beginnings of the 19th century. The new restoration took place in the mid-19th century. During the World War II Germans violated and damaged the monastery once more, and detained, tortured and killed its archimandrite Makarije on 24 February 1943.

That's a lovely shot Sasha, great architecture in nice peaceful setting. Composition and framing are all really pleasing. Different picture to other stocks I've seen and very nice POV of this beautiful monastery, the edges of roofs and domes, and even ice hangings, they add a special charm in winter.
The sun that shines at this time gives very nice texture to the walls and a beautiful color, good sharpness also allows us to enjoy the image.
