Photographer's Note
A weary pilgrim rests on a bench in front of the cathedral in Burgos, Northern Spain.
Burgos Cathedral is located in the historical centre of the Spanish city of the same name, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, in the northern Iberian Peninsula. The UNESCO inscribed property encompasses 1.03 ha.
Construction on the Cathedral began in 1221 and was completed in 1567. It is a comprehensive example of the evolution of Gothic style, with the entire history of Gothic art exhibited in its superb architecture and unique collection of art, including paintings, choir stalls, reredos, tombs, and stained-glass windows.
The plan of the Cathedral is based on a Latin Cross of harmonious proportions of 84 by 59 metres. The three-story elevation, the vaulting, and the tracery of the windows are closely related to contemporary models of the north of France. The portals of the transept (the Puerta del Sarmental to the south and the Puerta de la Coronería to the north) may also be compared to the great sculpted ensembles of the French royal domain, while the enamelled, brass tomb of Bishop Mauricio resembles the so-called Limoges goldsmith work. Undertaken after the Cathedral, the two-storied cloister, which was completed towards 1280, still fits within the framework of the French high Gothic.

is it just me, or am I the only one who's confused as to why we havn't see this sculpture on TE before? It's so powerful, emotional, and memorable. Talk about making a strong strong visual impact. this is quite remarkable.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,
Je suis toujours étonné de voir des sculptures installées de cette façon, et surpris du respect de l'objet.
Une contribution très réussie et fort bien présentée.

Hello Stephen,
Statues of people sitting on benches have become quite usual, but this is rather different. It serves you well as a perfect foreground for the view of the beautiful cathedral, and the people provide colours and life. The photo is well exposed but somehow the colours look rather washed out. Some small adjustments would have been possible.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Stephen,
The distance between the sculpture and the cathedral is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the Burgos cathedral and of the sculpture. A good mangement of the strong which does not hurt to much the output of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Stephen,
The 'Weary Pilgrim' makes a strong f/g image against giving good depth to the cathedral beyond.
I was fascinated to read how long it took for this cathedral to be completed! I would imagine that many architectural styles were implemented, deviating from the original design.
You create a great sense of space and, for me, a sense of surprise that, of all the people in the frame, no-one seems to be interested in this amazing building. What do they say, 'Familiarity breeds contempt'!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Stephen,
Il n'a pas besoin de nous raconter son long périple, on n'a qu'à le regarder pour comprendre qu'il est au bout du rouleau.L'ensemble est malheureusement un peu trop brûlé.
Amicalement

Hi Stephen
Generally I like the medieval mood with hordes of tourists, the tone and the sympathetic foreground figure. One can appreciate the technical and creative flair, but sincerely on negative point, I feel exposing the shadows too much sometimes flattens the image. Anyway, it's a good record shot and the pleasure is mine to view, Congrats.
Best wishes

Hello Stephen,
The "Weary Pilgrim" presents a dramatic silhouettes agains the light, monochromatic background. I fear, however, the is charred, blistered effect. It is astonishing that 346 years were devoted to the construction of the Cathedral.

Hello Stephen,
It is wonderful that a sculpture is dedicated to the humble pilgrim, and not the powerful rich or famous.
Great piece of art.

Hi Stephen
The seashell pendant gives the pilgrim sculpture the appearance of Neptune. The long construction time might be attributable to an interruption by the Moors? Spain did not succeed in driving them out until 1492. Tfs!

Hello Stephen,
I see, this is a burnt-out pilgrim (all puns intended). Nice statue in the plaza of an impressive church.
