The climate of Fribourg is continental temperate (Dfb according to the K鰌pen classification), with relatively cold winters and mild summers. Situated at the northern foot of the Bernese Alps, which act as a barrier for wet currents, the city experienced relatively heavy precipitation without aridity period. However, during periods anticyclonic, it undergoes a wind current may be sustained, being located on the Plateau which funnel configuration amplifies the phenomenon. As on the rest of the Swiss plateau, winters are sunny little, due to westerly winds rather frequent; and the north wind, which blowing between the Jura and the Alps, traps cold, moist air on the set, causing fogs that can last all day. Summer is on average mild enough not to be hot because of westerly winds and altitude, but the city does not exclude heat waves, which can continue for several days, often accompanied by thunderstorms end of the day.
