Photographer's Note
When I am dead, bury me
In my beloved Ukraine,
My tomb upon a grave mound high
Amid the spreading plain,
So that the fields, the boundless steppes,
The Dnieper's plunging shore
My eyes could see, my ears could hear
The mighty river roar.
When from Ukraine the Dnieper bears
Into the deep blue sea
The blood of foes ... then will I leave
These hills and fertile fields—
I'll leave them all and fly away
To the abode of God,
And then I'll pray .... But until that day
I know nothing of God.
Oh bury me, then rise ye up
And break your heavy chains
And water with the tyrants' blood
The freedom you have gained.
And in the great new family,
The family of the free,
With softly spoken, kindly word
Remember also me.
It is a poem by a Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko.
The poem is titled "Testament", (Zapovit, 1845), a translation by John Weir (Toronto, 1961).
This photo presents a monument of Taras Shevchenko along the Freedom Avenue (проспект Свободи) in Lviv. In the background you can see the back of the Church of the Most Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (Гарнізонний храм святих апостолів Петра і Павла).
If you want to see the view in the opposite direction look at his photo:

Freedom Avenue is a wide promenade in Lviv City Centre which has Lviv Opera House on the north end, statue of Taras Shevchenko in the middle and the statue of Adam Mickiewicz at the south end.
Info from Wikipedia:
Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko (Ukrainian: Тара́с Григо́рович Шевче́нко, 1814 – 1861) was a Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, public and political figure, as well as folklorist and ethnographer. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language, though the language of his poems was different from the modern Ukrainian language. Shevchenko is also known for many masterpieces as a painter and an illustrator. In 1847 Shevchenko was politically convicted for explicitly promoting the independence of Ukraine, writing poems in the Ukrainian language, and ridiculing members of the Russian Imperial House.

Witaj Mariusz
A sad epitaph. But I am sure a lot of people would rather bury Putin, including some enlightened Russians. Tfs!
This in the news today. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/australia-netherlands-legal-action-russia-mh17-plane-ukraine-malaysisa-airlines-b987873.html

Most attractive monuments, Mariusz, taken the picture from a fair distance to include as many objects around it.
Fantastic scale by the young woman raising both hands at the foot of the sculpture.
Good afternoon,

Hello Mariusz,
A beautiful place in this city, I like the combination of the monument, the statue and the church behind the two. Also the trees are a good addition, just as the people. There's a nice and relaxed mood.

Ciao Mariusz, the poem talks about the end of life and seems almost perfect to dedicate to those who are fighting for their homeland, proud to be part of it and die for freedom. Poetry from 150 years ago but still very current, and the statue of the poet is perfect to match his words and to deal with this difficult subject once again. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

I saw this monument in the photos of K, I guess. it is a curious monument mixing the traditional natural carvings with the different aspect of the whole structure. excellent this view. nice the poem about the love to the land where we were born. I guess the plains are a part of the troubles in this region of the planet, so easy to invade.
take care

Hello Mariusz.
A brave character the poet to whom this interesting monument is dedicated, above all the most original is the kind of great stele with many carved figures, an impeccable background the view of the church.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and magnificent composition; They are managed perfectly, in this beautiful image.
Nice job. I like it a lot.
You have a good day. Very best regards.
Luis.
P.S. Regardless of the nationality you have, the Georgian people are very friendly and pleasant to deal with, after all, the tourist is going to leave wealth to the country.
