Photographer's Note
Another exhibition at The Box, (the museum and art gallery in Plymouth) was entitled 'Breaking the Mould'.
"Breaking the Mould presents a diverse and significant range of post-war British sculpture by women."
(The Box website)
This 'family' have been created by Sokari Douglas Camp.
She titled it 'Audience' (from Showboat, Alali Aru installation) made from steel.
Sokari says:-
"I don't usually show the fact that I am a woman in my work.
People say 'You work in steel and that's not feminine.'
Why do I work in steel? Because it's a fantastic material!"
(Information board beside the artwork.)
This is just one of the many pieces from the Arts Council Collection, London on loan to the Box.
Purchased by the Arts Council in 1988.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Jean, steel is certainly a very difficult material to model, but it offers the advantage of being long-lasting and not easily oxidized, one of the very artistic works of this brilliant and very particular character, perfect photographic quality as always. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Jean,
These figures are funny, inventive and really beautiful. They were also well placed where you could capture fine shadows. Unless they are actually very large these are figures I wouldn't mind having at home. Thanks for showing them.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Jean,
My first impression on the steel exhibit was that they were continuation of the Aboriginal art exhibition.
I suppose it is a nice way to recycle variety of materials in this case the steel.
Interesting effect with the shades.
Very well done,
M

Hello Jean,
A beautiful family portrait!
It's fantastic how such figures were made with these materials.
I really like the shadows on the wall in the middle of the photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Jean,
I can see no reason why a woman should not work in steel, if that is her preferred material. She is obviously very skilled and talented in this medium.
The more I observe the figures, the more I like them!
The figure (which I presume is the mother), has such a sense of vitality as she swings her hips!
It's a nice arrangement, though the shadows do look a bit ghoulish!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Jean,
Quite wonderful group of sculptures made of steel. Shape of the bodies give good idea of each character. Those shadows look quite interesting too.

a not usual style of sculpture. I liked the way she created patterns in the clothes of the woman and the gesture of the man. nice samples of art.

Hi Jean.
Original and creative these works of art made in steel,
I like these colors achieved with the metal that seems as if it were a work in wood.
A beautiful composition, with great colors, splendid light and the sharpness is excellent with fine details.
Very well done. I like it
All the best for you. Have a great day.
Luis.
