Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
Seen better in the large format.
I managed to capture these two surfers walking across the beach, dressed in wet suits, when the tide was so low that there was no sea left upon which they could surf.
I wasn't sure if they were returning from a session, but it didn't appear that way, as they didn't look wet and their boards looked very clean.
My supposition was, that they were on holiday ready to go surfing and had miscalculated the tide!
I liked how all the features were in a line across the wet sand.
I will add a second photograph to show how the low tide drains the small harbour.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
I must apologise to those people who took the time to critique my photograph, yesterday. I suppose I was pushing my luck, showing the role reversal between the cat and the bird but the Moderators deemed it to be breaking the rules and removed it.

Hello Beverley, my neighbour today.
I had never associated Staithes as a surfing venue!
An excellent shot, I agree with you, all the lines are going in the same direction, even the surf boards are lined up.
Obviously the red boats are eye catchers, but it is the men and their boards that really make this shot so good.
I like the w/s shot too.
Kind regards, Jean.

Like this Bev. Colours and sunlight give a good image. As you say you wonder where they're going or where they've been!

Good evening Beverley,
First time I saw such a low tide was in Portree, Isle-of-Skye in 10/2016. Needless to say Israel has no tide in our Mediterranean sea, so it is a unique sight for me.
Fine capture with nthe two too-optimistic surfers, and the WS is no less attractive.
Red and white boats in fine contrast.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Bev,
In Belgium we know not the boats during low tide on the ground.
All harbors are with lock doors .
Your picture are very fine to look at, sure with the two wet surfers.
We see a nice panorama, I think big stones on the quai wall.
You have long time wait to posting (10 year)
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John

Hello Bev,
Both photos are very nice. The WS is well composed, slightly looking like a postcard, and with many eye-catching details, including the impressive steep rock. This one is more peculiar, quite amusing, showing the two men walking through the mud with their temporarily useless surfboards. The Swedish coast is more reliable. When you go to the sea you know the water will be there. ;-) No tides like here.
I was sorry to see the pretty cat gone, but I was not really surprised. Cats seem to be especially offensive to the mods.
Kind regards,
Gert

I liked a lot the image with these surfers and the row of red boats ahead. they broke the grey mood of the environment. the image in the WS is nice too, the mountain looks like a slice of a cake in layers. excellent image.
here lots of cold rain, anyway the frost they had forecast for us is gone, maybe some snow in the southern mountains of brazil.
take care

Hello Beverley,
Could it be that the cat was chased away by your budgerigar?
We do have tides in Belgium. But it is as John pointed out. You will never find boats here that are stuck in the mud or wet ground. I've seen those boats several times in photos taken in the UK or in France and I always found those scenes very special.
In that respect, your photo in the WS is something very special to me. Actually, that picture has something dramatic, although of course the situation occurs there every day.
Also an excellent photo for a main upload.
Going to surf and miscalculate the tide ... That's just as bad as I am. Thinking that I will remember all place names or names of mountains during a journey of more than four months and afterwards find that my memory is no longer what it once was :)
The surfboards still look as if they have just come out of the store.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,in fact it was definitely not the time to surf .. hehe .. the photo is very beautiful and also takes on a humorous value, the amazing overview in the WS. Too bad for the photos from your garden that I had commented, the cat was not in order, but the bird was definitely not a pet. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Beverley, the two surfers are probably not familiar with this spot, they were surprised by the low tide and then no waves. They were going back to their car. The fishing boats are anchored on the wet sand, they will go to the sea only when the water will come back. A thick sea wall protects the town against big waves in case of storm. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Bev,
You have captured the action of the surfersgoing on the beach. The point of view is showing the details of the boats. The lioght is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
A really nice view of this harbour at low tide, I really like that row of mostly red boats, just lying there in the wet sand. The two men with their surfboards are a great addition, especially in combination with those waterless conditions. They look a bit sad, so I think you're right and they miscalculated the tide.

Hi Beverley
Good DOF...It was a boring area of the beach at the low tide but there are still something you could come up with; love the catchy boats, the sand texture and how the 'surfers' came into play. Best use of available subject, well seen and shot.

Hello Bev, Amusing scene from the beach at low tide time. I am fascinated with the tides , as there is no such effect on Baltic Sea or the Mediterranean. Fine composition.
Pets are pets, the moderator watches carefully, there will be no cats on TE.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Bev, In southern Australia we don't have anywhere close to the tidal range that you do. I don't think surfers even think about it. Clearly surfers need to be able to read a tide table in Yorkshire! I quite like the row of red boats behind the surfers too. Cheers, Steve

Hi Bev.
The two photographs are splendid and I love them, you have to see how the tides change the landscape of ports and beaches, here there is practically no sea, the boats lined up and the two surfers in front of them is a great moment to capture this masterful composition.
Very nice coloring, which together with the good quality and optimal lighting, gives great quality to the image.
Well done. I like very much
You have a good day.
Very best regards
Luis.

Hello Bev,
The other option is of course TOO EARLY. 😉
In any case, you were right on time when you pulled the trigger for this beautiful and humorous photo.
The boys are nicely in line with the red fishing boats on the background.
Excellent work.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Bev,
this is a nice scene from Staithes. The white red boats add a nice touch and so do the surfers. You are right they seem too clean.
Very well spotted. I sometimes try to photograph the surfers but they never align nicely with the background as they did for you.
Excellent work,

Hi Bev
this one caught my attention right away, how could it not.
Ever since childhood, i've tried to envision what the deep Oceans look like without water, i guess we have to settle for these closer to shore versions :) The man with his head down, looking dejected is the best part :) Excellent choice of title to go along with the comedic theme. cheers
Craig
