Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
This is one of my favourite photographs from our visit to Whitby.
I was aiming to get an upwards view of the rising level of Whitby cottages, with the church strongly placed at the summit.
This egotistical gull had other ideas!
He walked along the wall and perched directly in my line of vision! He even had the audacity to look straight at my camera as if challenging me to get on with the photoshoot!
Well, what else could I do but accept the commission!
So, here is my portrait of the herring gull!
I have to add, I did not get paid for the commission! 😆
Well, I suppose his intervention meant that I took a photograph which was quite different from most other views of Whitby!!
Have a lovely Sunday, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
You mention that you were not paid for this photo, but the question is whether you had to pay the bird. It's obviously used to posing for photos, and such individuals are known to claim money. ;-)
It's a perfectly sharp photo and it's always fun when you suddenly get a photo opportunity you didn't expect.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Bev
From what we see behind the gull you were aiming at a very nice composition of the town. The bird decided otherwise. Many photographers would give up or try to chase the unexpected "model" away. You decided to go with the flow and ended up with a very special, unusual image. Well done!
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Bev,
You got a good eye contact with the bird. The point of view is showing the details of the Seagull posing for you. There is a good contrast between the colours of the picture. Have a nice day.

Great timimg, beverley, both on your side and the seagull's.
A close-up portrait to the bird, and as a bonus we get a colorful view of the houses of Whitby.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Beverley,
What an excellent portrait of this gull, posing quite pompously here like some old aristocrat in paintings from some centuries ago. Superb sharpness as well as depth of field for the houses of the town in the background.

Hi Bev,
It's an excellent portrait. Low camera angle gives appreciation to this bird, just like with important people. And city of Whitby in the background looks lovely. Really one of those places I would like to visit.

Dear Beverley,
I have never seen such a close-up photo of a gull. Is it a crop, or it was that close? I like this egoistic gent anyway! And what about the possible fees if he insisted? Maybe a sandwich? :)
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Beverley,
It seems clear to me that this gull wants to emphasize who's boss at sea.
You can take a picture (and a really sharp one like here).
But you will not unpunished eat food when you're outside.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev, The gulls are so used to posing for the photographers, they feel no fear. Charming composition with the blurred view of the colourful houses.

Beverley, nice close up of this sea gull against a backdrop of Whitby houses. The bird is posing like the star of the port. Sea gulls can eat almost everything they find, they are the cleaners of the coast. They are very opportunist and are accustomed to the life close to humans. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Bev,
this seagull seems quite curious. Keeps staring at you :)
May be he was a TrekEarth member in his former life :)
The pleasantly blurred background preserves nice features of the old town of Whitby.
Very well seen and captured,

Hello Bev,
You got it ! You've risen the dead of the count Dracula in the form of the flying vampire with the commission of your blood. Did you notice a bite on your neck that very night?
Geee....that's a scary photoshoot you made - look at the beak ( like Dracula teeth ). At least, it's not the pigeon legs I see.
No Whitby for me even how much I would like to visit Whitby.
But I do like the seashore reflections of Whitby. I wonder do this gull has a reflection too.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Bev,
This is funny! That gull wanted to be the star of your photo, and he has a comical face. Great focus on your surprise subject, and I like the blurred view of the background, too.
