JEFF KOONS MAJOR EXHIBITION AT ASHMOLEAN
Jeff Koons: "I couldn't think of a better place to have a dialogue about art today and what it can be."
Dr Xa Sturgis, Director of the Ashmolean, says: 'In showing Jeff Koons at the Ashmolean, the world’s oldest public museum where the collections range from prehistory to the present, this exhibition provokes a conversation between his work and the history of art and ideas with which his work engages. I am sure it will also provoke conversations among those who see it.’
The exhibition at the Asmolean showed 17 important works from the 1980s to today and was composed by the artist himself.
The three photos in this post zooms in on the heads of the 3 ballerinas who are the subject of two statues: Ballerina and Seated Ballerinas.
The artworks were created between 2010 and 2015.
Jeff Koons was inspired for this work by the antique porcelain figurines of dancers.
The images belong to the "Antiquity Series" and to see the entire images you can click the link to:

Hello Rob,
Highly entertaining sculptures that people could love or hate but which would leave very few indifferent. Three-dimensional figures that combine shapes and colours almost like abstract paintings. Above all they must have inspired you to capture reflections that would make your compositions even more amusing. And they give us good opportunities to look for selfies.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Rob
A true artisan for sure. The high polish makes for a futuristic feel to the work. I looked at the images with great interest. I even see you managed to come up with three self portraits ;) nice sharpness and color with these images.

Hi Rob,
I appreciate the light reflections on the sculpture. The point of view is showing the details of the ballerinas sculture. The light is bringing out the colours. Well done, have a nice day.

Hi Rob
The glossy golden skin reflects the outside but as the shapes are not flat, the reading of the image is strange. I prefer the
portrait where you appear!
Cheers

Dag Rob,
dit type glas werk is op zicht reeds een kunst.
Wanneer er dan nog gezichten worden gemaakt en de kleuren mooi door elkaar vloeien.
De temperatuur en de tang zorgen voor heel wat zweet druppel bij de artiest.
Scherp genomen goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Rob, three fantastic pictures. I was totally unaware of these particular works by Jeff Koons.
The play of light on the metal surfaces is really beautiful. I like the patterns that are created by the curves of the polished steel. The colours are remarkable.
I am putting this into my favourites, thank you.
Best wishes , Jean.

Hallo Rob, the stainless steel polished creates a mirror effect. The sculptures represent different dancers wearing the ballerina costume. It is a refined artwork. The photo note provides useful information about the artist and his work. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hallo Rob,

Hi Rob,
Shine of this beautiful sculpture is fantastic. All the round forms create reflections that remind those from ripples of water. And the reflection from the hair give idea of the exhibition room, which you often include on your art photos.

hello Rob, Three nice pictures showing these ballerinas. In the main one, it is a bit hard to see the face at first, because of so reflections. But they are fascinating. Interesting pieces of art. Best regards MAlgo

Hello Rob,
I can't think of a photograph where the texture of the subject has been so exquisitely captured! The light and reflections on this sculpture make it seem to be almost liquid! I just love it!
You have cropped the sculpture very well so that it fits into the frame, without any distractions and we almost join in with her sense of meditation!
All the shots could be main posts but this is superb!
Into my favourites, I think!
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob,
It's nice to see this art again. A few years ago a giant seated ballerina by Jeff Koons was in Rockefeller Center. I like the warped reflections that can be seen in some of the art, and the pose of the ballerina's head. Take care!

Hello Rob,
First of all, thank you for such an interesting and informative note: I couldn't resist having a look on Jeff Koons' website and seeing these (and other) works of his - and one thing that amazed me was the size of these two particular artworks - both are over two metres tall.
It is clear that not only do you appreciate art but you also share many artistic qualities yourself because you have approached these artworks with your camera in a very artistic way to produce some very wonderful images.
For those who appreciate the subtleties of shape and form and colour, these three images are a delight and the appearances are reminiscent of quicksilver even though they are of stainless steel. And for those less appreciative of art there is always the challenge of trying to find the "selfie" of the photographer - easy to discover in your two workshop images but more difficult in the main one.
Three beautiful images of these two artworks, perfectly taken with fine light, rich colours and perfect exposure and well presented with exquisite detail and sharpness.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hallo Rob,
Mooie vervormde weerspiegelingen van de tentoonstellingszaal met bezoekers op de hoofden en lichamen van de ballerina's.
Het blijft wel even gissen welke kleuren weerspiegeling zijn of eigen aan het kunstwerk.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Rob
beautiful final product. one of your best shots I think, or at least in my humble opinion. The result is so glistening, and so shiny, with great looking reflections, it really is quite beautiful zoomed in like this. Also, I came across on InstaGram today, a BEAUTIFUL castle near Amsterdam, I want to visit+++++++++. So photogenic, have you been to Kasteel De Haar? I'm sure you have. cheers

I knew it was a job of that artist when I saw the miniature.curiously I never knew his art in person, only in photos. nice image mixing the reflections and the shapes of the girl creating a curious feeling.
PS: here we had a big storm yesterday, 10 dead people after a bomb-cyclone hit southern-brazil, in my city many rain, ice and strong winds.
]take care
