Portree bay, daytime, a photo from Highland, Scotland

Photographer's Note

Daytime over the Portree bay from a higher point, actually the only high POV available that I had found along the Bosville-Terrace, with yet another view of the capital's iconic painted houses along the quay.
The bay is 57.4119, -6.19 on the map.

Technical's: RAW converted into JPEG, F7.1, exp. 1/160, ISO250.

Hello Ike,
Your high vantage point gave you an excellent point of view over the little port and its colourfully painted houses. The framing trees top and bottom in their autumn foliage offer some pleasing warm contrasting tones. The image is well exposed and has very good colours and clarity despite the rather gloomy October sky.

Hello Ike,a lovely view over Portree Bay; the colourful harbourside houses are a great focal point.
The storage tanks have been painted green in an attempt to camouflage them, very thoughtful.
I like the inclusion of the fg branches with their colourful leaves, mirroring the autumn colours on the bg hill.

The length of the bay is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the colourful houses. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Ike,
I like this better than the other photo of the same buildings, not just for the better light but for the better angle. There is so much of the surroundings seen here, including the many small boats that provide a nice context for the houses. The various kinds of autumn coloured trees provide an attractive lower frame for the photo.

Ces petites maisons qui s'apparentent � des maisons de poup閑 aux couleurs 閏latantes forment un ensemble tr鑣 sympathique. Le port de p阠heurs avec les bateaux 閜arpill閟 sur la mer est amusante (il faut une chaloupe pour aller r閏up閞er son embarcation).

It's amazing how the paintwork of a town can breathe life into a scene, if these were grey buildings, we likely wouldn't glance twice. The contrast of color between the pink building and the overgrown trees is really great. Nicly done

As I noted in your earlier post, these houses have very bright colors. I wonder if their original builders would approve of these candy colors. It is interesting to see row houses right next to what looks like an oil storage facility. It is a very pleasant photo with vivd colors and a peaceful bay.

Hello Ike,

I'm sure I've said this before, this just looks like the opening shot from a children's programme called Balamoray! It's so attractive!
Your high vantage point is really good for this shot, for it allows us to look down on both the port and the row of pretty, pastel-shaded houses, and see how they relate to the surrounding land.
The f/g vegetation gives us that necessary sense of depth.

yes, i remember this place very well, however, i'm looking at that building in the far bg on the right....from here it looks abandoned.

obviously the pink and blue colours make this scene pop and are the main focal point. charming and picturesque, belongs in a calendar. crisp and clear too. cute one.

Hello Ike,
I missed this one. What a beautiful row of houses along the quay!
The soft tones of their facades are a real surprise in this area where lots of walls have the grey stone colour.
The pink and blue tones are nicely reflected in the dark water.
A very picturesque sight, beautifully presented and well provided from a pretty natural foreground.

I like the elevated viewpoint overlooking the quaint terrace houses along the waterfront. The pink and blue ones are a good warm cold color contrast. Tfs!
