Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
My last post showed some well-travelled Canadians exploring the ruins of Bolton Abbey. The shot was interesting partly because the female of the pair was wearing red!
Didi asked me if I could show a wider, more complete view of the abbey so, as promised, here it is.
As a w/s, I will add a second shot which, perhaps, I like better but it doesn't show the wider view.
It is only from this angle, with the river behind you, that you will be able to include the gravestones. They are edged by a small, wooden fence. I don't know what you think, but I can always see human characteristics in buildings and here, the imposing, end wall seems to to overlooking the graves, like a protective mother!
Have a lovely Sunday, Bev :-)

I always wondered what happened to England's many churches and monasteries, lost the roof sometime in the past, Berverly.
Yet, the missing roof gives an extra good light onto the inside of what was the main hall, enhances the details and creates shadows on the arches and pillars.
Chosen well the wide and upwards perspective with the old cemetery in the FG. Contrast superbly to the partly cloudy sky.

Hello Bev,
I like this point of view; the shapes of many of the gravestones echo the windows of the abbey and help create depth for the composition. The overhanging branch also helps in the latter respect. The image is nicely exposed and has very good colours and clarity. Have a nice Sunday afternoon; weather here is bright and dry and a bit on the chilly side.

Hello Bev,
Well, I will have to accept that I can't have a lady in red in every photo. But Bolton Abbey does quite well on its own. It does look even more impressive in this wider view (and from below), and the graves indicate a presence of people in a way. It's a very neat composition with fine colours and very attractive clouds.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
It's quite interesting to see the sky through the place where the roof once was. Gravestones make interesting foreground. I guess you used the widest setting of your objective. Even wider cuold show more of those stones.
I wonder how many of such ruins there are in England.

Bonjour Beverly
WOW! Une très belle photo. Du moins dans mon optique. J'aime beaucoup en faire de semblables. Bon choix de point de vue qui offre toute une contre plongée qui donne une ampleur étonnante. Les petits monuments à l'avant plan ouvrent bien l'image.
Bon dimanche

Hello Beverley,
Wow! Even though it is reduced to a ruin, Bolton Abbey looks very impressive. Truly Majestic.
I read Ike's question and your answer. Shame on France to threaten England that way so that the monasteries and churches lost the ability to maintain the cultural heritage :)
Just kidding ... but I've also noticed that there are so many ruins of churches, abbeys and monasteries in England.
The graveyard in the foreground adds more depth to the picture and helps to underline the enormous dimensions of the abbey.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Beverley,
A beautiful presentation of this ruin with the graveyard in the foreground. The colors of sky and grass highlight the stones. Nice the WS too. Well done!
Have a nice week!

Hi Bev
I missed out on a few sweet shots, lets start with this one.
and i totally get what you're saying about the WS photos.
it has happened to me several times where I actually like the WS photo more, then i regret posting the other one lol.
Oh well, its just a photo right?
with yours, I also enjoy the WS photo more, but I understand the request you were fulfilling.
still though, i love the gravestones and the upwards pov, especially with the large clouds and blue sky.
not so bad after all haha
thanks for this one
cheers

Hi Bev,
the previous one was great enough to convince me to place this abbey on my list of places to visit this year. May be when it gets warmer though :)
The second one shows that there is so much more there to see. It looks completely different from this angle. You had a fantastic weather too which makes it really eye catching. The sky is fabulous.
This is another place which I discovered and will visit thanks to you :)
Excellent work,
M

Hi Beverley!
It's very beautiful from this pov, no wonder those tourists wanted to go there. This must have been a very impressive abbey. You framed it very well with the graves in foreground.

Hello Beverley
I like the perspective from which you show this ruined abbey. The cemetery in the foreground adds interest to the composition, as well as the branch at left.

Pedro
