Photographer's Note
A week ago we had a little TE meeting near Keswick. The first port of call was Ashness Bridge which both Mariusz (mkamionka) and Bev (Royaldevon) have already shown you. But Mike (mjw364) and I decided to take a little walk along a track above the bridge for just a couple of hundred yards to this point where the track suddenly divides with a much steeper track heading off to the right to Walla Crag, a much higher viewpoint. We were pressed for time and so I decided just to make do with the lovely view from here.
Looking north, here we can see Derwentwater below, stretching north to the town of Keswick, seen in the distance on the right in front of the mountain which is Skiddaw (931m). Farther left and beyond you can just see Bassenthwaite Lake.
You can clearly see the fork in this little track if you click on Map:view and select "satellite" view.
ISO 100, 1/80 sec at f/13, focal length 28mm.

Hello John
It is fascinating to see the differences and similarities in the pictures of the various TE-members in this meeting. But the pictures may be different the quality is always high by everybody.

Hello John
I remember our little detour. I think your memory of this little vantage point served you will because its a very good POV you have here. Much better than the shots I was taking just below the gate that you ventured through.
This is a well composed shot with the path taking us into the shot ftom the lower left corner. Then the shoreline of the lake zig zags nicely into the valley where we catch a glimpse of Bassenthwaite. The fingerpost anchors the foreground and the light in the FG favoured you allowing contrast with the darker peaks in the distance. This creates an aspect of a layered depth to the image.
Overall this image has a high degree of compositional balance, showing your experience as a photographer.
Very well done, John.
Have a good evening.

Hello John, I look at all these Meeting pictures with the great pleasure. I would like to add my photos made five years ago but I have so many pictures from my trips. Fabulous view of the lake with the islands, what a pleasure to go by this path near the big ferns. Wonderful!
Have a beautiful Sunday.
I liked playing Scarlatti sonatas but I forgot which one was my favorite. Have a you bought a piano or just tuned?

Hello John,
The point of view is excellent and the exposure perfectly managed. Beautiful lights and delightful natural colours. Superb clarity and a wonderful sense of depth with the lake stretching towards the vanishing point.

Hello John,
It's a lovely scenery, even if it's relatively ordinary and not the most stunning Paradise on Earth. But you have a talent for composing photos so neatly, and making perfect exposures, that everything that comes out of your camera looks marvellous. (Or at least you are wise enough not to show the failures.) The tracks and the sign are well placed, the composition is well balanced, there is a beautiful gradual change of tones from light green to dark green to blueish green. Maybe this was merely a snap-shot as you came walking up the hill, but in that case you certainly know how to make a snap-shot look carefully considered.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John
Lovely scene and it looks like a great place for a long walk. The view is impressive, but it's the splash of purple from the flowers in the foreground that really brighten up the whole area. Funny something so small can have a big impact on am already big scene.
Cheers

Hi John,
I remember wondering where you have disappeared! This was so worth it! I feel really like I need to get back there again. One of the reasons is that having limited time I always couldn't decide where exactly to go in Lake District. I have visited few spots but no guidebook really tells anything useful.
This day trip which we had together seems to be reachable from where I live and has well defined beautiful stops along the condensed way.
Spectacular view here, may be even more attractive than the Surprise View itself!
I like very much the aspect of the trail in the foreground together with the sign. The vegetation is so lush green! It looks almost like a rain forest.
You have got a fantastic light there! These were brief moments but you have used them perfectly!!
Very impressive work!!

Ciao John
fantastico panorama, anche il cielo con le nuvole contribuisce a renderlo splendido.
Anche se era tardi, avete fatto bene a fermarvi, non capita spesso di trovare luoghi come questo.
Saluti

Hi John
from this viewpoint, it looks like you've been hiking for several hours.
when you sit back and take a look at the photo as a whole, its very pleasing to the naked eye because all the lines flow so well, and the frame is full from top to bottom.
and what can I say about the exposure and clarity, looks pretty damn good to me! another successful TE meeting.
see you around
Cheers

Hello John,
I didn't realise that you had moved further up the hill; shows how observant I am!
What I like about this shot is that it is possible to include more of the hillside and create a better setting for the view of the lake. Of course, the pathway makes an excellent guide line and the signpost anchors, strongly positioned on the thirds line, the f/g.
You have included some lovely details of heather and other wild flowers, set in the sunshine, providing fine, lighting contrasts with the scenic b/g.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Caro Giovanni
What a gorgeous scene. Beautiful green tones, impressive depth of field and sharpness. The inclusion of the characteristic little sign was an excellent touch, accentuating the character and romance of this world famous area.
