Photographer's Note
'Symmetry'? Well almost, the Pavilion at the far end just spoils the symmetrical composition.
This is Bridge End Garden in Saffron Walden.
It was created in about 1840 by Francis Gibson, a Quaker, prominent citizen and benefactor of the town.
His garden was a development of a smaller existing garden thought to be created by his father.
The Garden is unusual in that it was never attached to or designed around a dwelling.
The Garden is still owned by the Fry family who, through marriage, inherited the Garden in the latter part of the 19th century. From the early 20th century it has been leased to the local borough and district councils, and most recently in 2010 to Saffron Walden Town Council.
The garden that you see today has been recreated to resemble the original Victorian garden.
Here, the Dutch Garden is a sunken garden, and at its best viewed from an iron viewing platform, which I did.
The Pavilion, a listed building provides a seat and shelter.
Two more views in the w/s.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean
This lovely almost symmetrical garden is a miniature of the one in the Zinger in Dresden, Upplala in Sweden, Linderhof Palace in Bavaria, and Helsingør (Elinsore) in Denmark. The Pavilion doesnt bother me. It's probably used to store rakes, shears and hoes that keep the gardens in tip top condition. Tfs!

Hello Jean,
I am not a very tidy person, so I prefer gardens that look rather more "wild" and "natural". But I can't help admiring those than can create something like this and keep it looking good. What a lot of hard work and patience needed! Three interesting photos, and in all of them you managed to hide s much as possible of the eternally grey English sky.
Best regards,
Gert

A meticulously cared garden, art work in plants, Jean.
A green color prevailing all over, which "left" a small parts to other colors on this beautiful place.
lovely picture.
Good evening,
Ike

Hi Jean,
The symmetry is quite pleasing to the eye, but I also like the variety of plants and shapes in the garden. All that green is quite calming. You found a good point of view to display the garden.

Hello Jean,
Don’t you just wish you had a big garden and some gardeners to help you care for it!
This is a really beautifully designed, formal garden. I love how well the shrubs have been planted and clipped into these quite delightful patterns.
You had a very good viewpoint from which to capture the symmetrical patterns and you did it with a commendable, sharp exposure.
The extra photographs help our greater understanding of the garden
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hi Jean
Some people like everything to be very symmetrical. I prefer a bit of chaos! That said, this is a beautiful example of symmetry and you've kept your photo perfectly symmetrical too.
Cheers

Hello Jean,
A well-kept and beautiful garden with walking paths between the plants.
Well presented from a slightly elevated platform.
At first I had the impression that when planning the garden they wanted to form a year with the plants in the foreground, but apparently not.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Jean,
fantastic place for a walk. This must cost a lot of work to maintain a place like this. I struggle with my lawn already.
Nicely captured from elevated point of view. The weather didn't spoil you. The weather in the country is more changeable these days. Sometimes there are great photo opportunities, I have seen several rainbows yesterday but not in nice spots. Hence I move back to my archives...
Very well done,
M

Hi Jean.
A wonderful composition, with this beautiful garden that you have captured in a perfect POV, beautiful symmetry with a delicate, very elegant design of the cutouts.
An image to enjoy, with its beautiful coloring, great luminosity and perfect sharpness.
Superbly captured. Love it.
Happy Sunday and the beginning of the week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

beautiful garden and excellent view of it. here in brazil we have some preserved modernist gardens, some of them created by burle marx, a famous brazilian botanic with brazilian species, but we never had a tradition of creation or preservation of garden as european have. you can see a sample above in itamarati palace in Brasília city.
