Photographer's Note
Hello, today three pictures that demonstrate another characteristic of Tudor buildings, known as 'jettying'.
Jettying is a building technique used in medieval timber-frame buildings, in which an upper floor projects beyond the dimensions of the floor below.
It was very useful for enlarging floor space whilst giving maximum street width.
And it could also have been to shelter the lower walls from the weather.
Still in Saffron Walden, a very attractive market town.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
Any of these photos could have been a main upload. They all show very pretty houses and good examples of jettying (a word I never heard before, and I could never have guessed this meaning). This photo shows the finest pastel colours, while WS#2 has the best collection of nice buildings. I would have seen no point in cloning out the bright yellow lines. They don't disturb me at all, they only add another bright colour.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
You chose a nice angle along the old frontages.
Houses with different colours, also decorative flowers.
Sharpness and clarity are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Jean,
marvelous sight of those Tudor buildings, each painted with diff. colors.
The juxtaposition perspective gave good sense of depth along the street, yet maintained excellent view on the facades.
Good evening,
Ike

Hi Jean
A charming capture of the old building - tx to your explanation- with an arty twist full of local character. The long perspective has been well defined with the narrow street and the striking pastel colours create such great visual impact. An enticing shot supported by your extra quality pics. I bet the local tourist board would like to get this one in their brochure!. Looks wonderful.
Best regards

Hi Jean
A good trio of photos of the, in some cases, very colourful old houses. Love the crooked yellow lines on the road.

Hello Jean,
A good vertical composition for this view along the façades of the houses. They look very appealing and have some attractive colours, which look even better in this fine sunlight. Well done.

Hello Jean,
Jettying, pargeting, it feels like learning a foreign language, but one full of interest!
Not only are these houses so interesting in their ancient design, but their pastel colours add a very special atmosphere.
You chose a good aspect to clearly reveal the ‘jettying’, with further evidence in the w/s.
My warm regards,
Bev😊

Hello Jean,
The Ottoman Turks used the same technique and examples can be seen throughout Turkey, Bulgaria and the Balkans. Good sharpness, colour and perspective. The workshops compliment the main upload. Tfs!

Hi Jean,
we are learning so much aboiut the English architecture from your uploads. I live here nearly 10 years now and I must admit I didn't notice it. These overhangs I remember from York indeed.
Nice pastel colors here and the great quality allows to feel the rough surface of the old walls,
Very well done,
M

it is very usual here in modern days this idea of expand the second floor above the side walk. nice this sample of the old times showing the row of façades. this remind me a not I read some time ago about dutch façades should be so narrow because the taxes were high for the wider one.
take care
jorge
