Young cellist playing with CoMA (Contemporary Music for All), Sussex group.

CoMA was founded in 1993 to enable musicians of all abilities to participate actively in contemporary music. It has a national network of instrumental and vocal ensembles and an expanding international programme. My wife Rosemary plays clarinet with the Sussex group, and I was asked to go along and take some pictures of the musicians during one of their rehearsals.

A wonderful portrait of a young cellist in black and white.
The instrument made a nice diagonal composition.

It's nice to see your rare appearances here. This is a very good portrait of the young lady. The photo is well processed with fine tones of her skin and a perfect black background. I also like the diagonals of the instrument, her braid, nose and arms.

Flash would have killed this, as it is you have a very intimate study of concentration and communication and here I'm always fascinated by how delicate musicians fingers are. Especially when they are playing their chosen instrument and I understand how lost you can get once the music starts.

Some good diagonals here, and the choice of mono works nicely as does the shallow dof. This is a delightful study of a musician at work, a thoughtful, studious, indeed learned woman from her expression and attitude......

WE don't see enough of you these days!
However, this is a very beautiful portrait of the cellist. It's the sort of crisp b&w shot that you might see in a programme advertising the event.
It's an excellent crop, the facial details of the cellist clearly recording her concentration, whilst the neck of the instrument taking a diagonal line across the frame.
