A beautiful carousel in a temporary location on Plymouth Barbican.
I found a set of pictures of the carousel in my archive and was surprised by how bright the colours were even on a dull day.

Prancing horses go round and round, beautifully painted in a distinctive style, a very special artform.

Carousel, roundabout or whirligig? Call it what you will.

Hello Jean,
A great photo of this carousel with lots of very vibrant colours, a good mix of mostly red and gold. Well saturated to make them jump out well from the cloudy day.

Hi Jean,It's nice to see such a close-up photo of a carousel, the best to bring out all the details and colors, really rich. It is also a memory of when we were young, in Italy they are completely scmparsi. Great photographic quality in perfect symmetry. Brings back memories of childhood - the old fashion fairground carousel that you have retained the detail superbly, it's vibrant and vivid in colours. Great timing too, seeing this makes me think of the scene in Mary Poppins where the horses take the children on an adventure.....

A good photo of the carousel with good colour and sharpness as it raced around. I've never heard the term whirligig but another related term (for smaller rides) is merry-go-round.

Hello Jean,
This is one of those photos that really have to be seen in a larger version. The closer view brings out the colours and details much better than what is seen on the TE page. It also reveals that it may have been a dull day, but the photo is extremely well exposed and the perfect sharpness shows us every little detail.

PS Thanks for your comments on my latest photo. I think the long walkway across the bay may have been slightly updated since 1988, but the mausoleum has been completely renovated as shown by pictures PaulVDV took in about 2017.

Hello Jean,

Fairs are such good places for catching colourful scenes and people enjoying themselves!
This carousel (more American than our usual roundabout) is meant to attract attention and the colours and horses do exactly that! Every part is colourful, with the addition of fairy lights!
You have achieved a fine, sharp, symmetrical image.
