Photographer's Note
Taken from a high point of view, I am looking down on Lanhydrock House.
"Lanhydrock is unquestionably one of the most impressive historic houses in Cornwall.
Built of local grey slate and granite.
The house dates to 1640, though most of the current building was the result of rebuilding after a fire in 1881.
Immediately behind the house is the church of St Hydroc.
Lanhydrock is surrounded by 900 acres of parkland and woods."
(Passionate about British Heritage.)
If you are ever in the area, Lanhydrock is a must to visit. Inside there is a beautiful long gallery amongst other lovely features.
One slightly different view in the w/s.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
I may be ignorant of British architectural styles, but this immediately made me think of Haddon Hall. Maybe it's just that the building is entirely grey, in entirely green surroundings, and that they windows are fairly similar, but it makes a similar impression. The roofs are different and this is probably much smaller (and a bit younger). Regardless of differences or similarities it's a very attractive building and it's beautifully situated in this lush green scenery. Both photos are very sharp and well exposed, as usual, and the sky is grey (as usual) ;-)
Thanks for your latest smiley. The shadows on the walls were created by trees, but I'm not sure whether by those on the same side of the street or on my side.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Jean, there were only 3 photos on this site of this fantastic country house, so your post is very useful, also because it is taken from a different direction and perspective from the others. Really beautiful, a perfectly preserved historical jewel, great photographic quality despite the difficult light. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Jean,
A great view of this large house. The higher viewpoint offers a great overlook, also of the trees and fields on the other side. Well done.

Hello jean,
What an unusual name for a building!
I suspected 'Hydrock' might have been the name of a saint, giving his name to the area. Research on the Internet confirmed that Hydrock was a Cornish saint.
'Almost nothing is known of this saint apart from a tradition that he lived in the 5C, may have come from Ireland and lived at a place later called Lanhydrock (church/enclosure of Hydrock) near Bodmin; there is an ancient cross and holy well.'
Maybe you have seen the cross and well.
Anyway, it is a huge, impressive house, cleverly designed to make sure that there were windows to light all the rooms.
It looks to have large gardens attached, too.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

magnificent mansion, Jean, beautifully lay in the green area and I can see a well cared garden in front.
There is no way I'd rightly pronounce its name...
Good afternoon,

Hello Jean,
This stately house looks very nice surrounded by all the greenery. I like how we are looking down, and that the fence divides the grass in the foreground from the rest of the scene. Take care!

Hello Jean,
The house seems to be located in a pit ... On the other hand you may have climbed the only hill in the area to present this historic house from above.
Also in your main photo we see more of the area: first of all a part of the beautifully landscaped garden and furthermore a large meadow and a lot of woods.
It is wonderful how quiet and green this area is.
Best regards, Paul

Wonderful view from high up, Jean. It must be great to stumble upon such a sight while walking in the area. Or perhaps it is only visible from within the domain itself. That'd be a pity.

Hi Jean,
Very attractive house indeed and amazing natural setting which is well apparent in your photos.
Original point of view looking down at the architecture. It makes it feel as if the house was smaller than the trees around it.
Very well done,
M

Hi Jean.
Formidable mansion with various volumes, many chimneys and large windows, it is unusual for a mansion of this level, surrounded by so much land, to be built so deep in the hollow instead of in the smooth hill that we see behind, I think it is the first that I see with this curiosity.
Good coloring and adequate light and sharpness management.
Well done. Love it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
