60 Swallows on a wire, a photo from Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv

Photographer's Note

While I was looking for big birds - i.e. planes, spotted a large flock of swallows on a wire. Count them, exactly 60 !
Reminded me a scene from Hitchcock movie "The birds"�

Converted from RAW, F9.0, 1/1250, ISO100
*** Delibrerately left the pole on right side. Did not crop.

Hello Ike,
This is a very elegant composition. It is so minimalistic that without the glimpses of lampposts at the bottom it could have been puzzling. Now it is just amusing, or should I say fascinating.

Hi Ike,
Yes I remember the famous movie. The dramatic scenes started like that, with birds preparing for the attack.
From the miniature it is hard to appreciate the scene as we can see only a line in the sky but your title luckily raises our interest and indeed it is a brilliant surprise to see so many birdson one wire.

So many birds on a wire close to an airport, I am wondering if the airport is scaring away from the runways, teh airport in Montreal is doing that. The point of view is showing some details of the birds. It is clear and precise. Have a nice day.

Ha! Ha! Ike, 'The Birds' would certainly be a good comparison! They look like a chorus line on a stage!
You have presented the line of birds very well, as a near diagonal across the frame.

A good capture, shows how 'chance'photos can be very effective. Reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song 'Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free.' Which indeed these birds have done.

An original and different composition, impressive how the birds cover the entire cable, some very close to each other, true that in Hitchcock's movie I think I remember they gradually reach a cable and fill it

The swallows are really close together.
Perhaps there was only one wire in the area.
Since you took the photo in January, it's not the time for a return or the time of their arrival. Strange that they're all sitting together.
Since the swallow is a migratory bird, do you never see swallow nests and their young birds in Israel?

Hello Ike, I counted the swallows and indeed, there are 60 of them :). When we see the big flock of birds waiting, we think about the Hitchcock movie. But I do not think that the swallow could be aggressive against humans.

You're absolutely spot-on 60 swallows. I did count them twice ... just in case you've missed one :-)
I see that these swallows love hanging on the wire , either to sleep or rest.
You know, I've seen them in Ipoh ( my hometown in Malaysia ). In the evening , the whole streets were full of them hanging on the wires.
Soon very soon, I'll see them back again ... flying around above my back garden.
It's so wonderful watching them as I'm watching at this picture ... chirpy 'Harmony'.
