Photographer's Note
It was priceless timing to take this one long day trip just a week ago to the Judaean Desert and Jordan southern valley monasteries.
There are more than a dozen monasteries around this region, both in Israel and some within the Kingdom of Jordan. It is a wide area some 80km from home – but a whole different landscape and adventure.
A view from a high vantage point (in Israel) towards Quasr-al-Yahud and beyond into the Kingdom of Jordan. Saint George the Baptist Romanian-church on the closer/lower part, while on upper right side is the Surb Karapet Armenian Apostolic-church and two new churches which not appearing on the maps yet.
General location at 31.8346, 35.557.
Picture converted from RAW, F10, 1/500, ISO100, spot.

We are OK after long night under rockets attacks from Gaza. You may re-visit my pictures from 03/04/2021, the lookout point to Gaza, and the info on the notes.

Hello Ike,
I thought about you this morning. The rockets from Gaza reaching the Tel Aviv area usually don't cause much damage, but you never know...:-(
There are several impressive shrines in this photo, all Christian but belonging to different congregations. The vantage point is perfect.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ike
good to hear that you're safe.
Here we have another interesting viewpoint, something different for us to enjoy. It makes me wonder...would I be allowed to fly my drone in Israel...I get the feeling it would be a strong NO. It would probably be perceived as some type of threat? who knows....just a thought. cheers

Hi Ike,
The distance between the churches is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the churches. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ike,
This is such an interesting place; so very different from your home area!
The f/g church seems to be built of gold, within the bounds of small oasis, whilst the other churches appear to be built on land resembling that of the moon!
In such a short distance, the styles are very different to suit the different religions.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
I was shocked to see the newsreels from Israel. Glad that you are okay.
Let's hope a peaceful solution can be found quickly for the safety of everyone.

Hello Ike,
The landscape looks very nice here with those small hills and the greener areas in front of them. The different towers and domes are nicely seen in front of us and in the distance as well. Good work.

Hello Ike,
Good to hear that you're safe from the rockets. Even for me it was an arduous task to get into Israel from Jordan & back again in the same day. 3 check zones on the Jordanian side, a no man's land on the border and 3 more check points on the Israeli side before I could enter Jerusalem. But I was determined to do a daytrip to Jerusalem. I would guess an emphatic 'NO' for drones in Israel. We now have the technology to attach remote control weapons to drones and someone made a prediction that it's only a matter of time before someone uses them to try & assassinate a hated politician. Sad but true. Like Egypt, the division line between arable and arid is quite stark here. Good sharpness and compression from the zoom lens. The churches add focal points in both the fg and bg. Tfs!

Hi Ike,
amazing sight indeed. The temples decorate the desert landscape nicely and there is such a variety of them, as you say from older more traditional ones to newer designs. I am a bit surprised to see that there are so many Christian temples there, I thought now with the Jewish and Arabic tensions Christians would rather go there as tourists but not necessarily would like to stay.
Here you have captured three temples in one shot.
Very well done,
M

Hello Ike,
So this is somewhere near Jericho.
In my memory, Jericho was mainly Islamic and not Christian like Bethlehem, for example. I could be wrong.
I haven’t seen these churches and of course even less the newer built churches nearby.
Beautiful strong contrast between the greener parts and the arid soils.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ike,
Fabulous view, those new churches are eye-catching. By the way, does Qasr-al-Yahud mean Jewish Palace?
