Laura, from the web:
A Laura is a cluster of cells or caves near a monastery where members of the community live in seclusion around the area. The caves were connected by narrow paths through them the monks would meet occasionally (end quote).
Located in the Judean desert east of Jerusalem, the cliff across is at 31.704 35.3324 on the map, just below the eastern observation point to the monastery.

Hi Ike
Another good one from your trip around the old monasteries. A desolate and very uninviting location but interesting structures. Those lauras look especially uninviting!
cheers

Hello Ike,
Another three fascinating views of this desolate place in the desert, burning hot in summer and possibly ice cold sometimes in winter. Well taken, sharp photos and good info in the notes.
Regards,
Gert

Fascinating cliffside ruins with good sharpness and an excellent elevated pov. Good sharpness and nice warm colours of the arid landscape. Tfs!

Hi Ike,
The tight frame is putting the site in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of the Ma-Saba old walls and of the lauras. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ike,
Your main photograph is really good, giving a sense of depth and contrast to this very interesting, ancient region! Your w/s add details of where the caves were situated.
I can imagine that these are extremely old habitations.
The natural caves would have attracted men to live and these could be developed into isolated places for monks to reside, whose purpose in life is prayer and not idle chatter!
Gosh, what an interesting place!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ike,
A very nice composition with those caves, two domes and old walls. All is very nicely lit by a fine sunlight, which highlights the warm tones well. Also the textures are clearly seen.

Hi Ike,
very interesting story. If the tunnels are still passable they could make some hotel rooms in there, that would be very interesting experience. I think in Cappadocia they made some B&B in ancient carved houses.
Nice warm light here. The domes add a touch of elegance.
Very well done,
M

Hi Ike,really very interesting, the two photos of the WS without the insert of the part of the monastery are very reminiscent of the "sassi" of Matera, the houses where people still lived until the 1960s and where the G20 will be held tomorrow. This tour you did offers a new nice surprise every time, I would gladly do it. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Ike,
What was built there is so well integrated into nature that it becomes difficult to distinguish building stone from rock.
Three magnificent pictures whereby I feel just a little more for the first one in the WS. But actually all three are worth being a main photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ike.
A magnificent composition with this detail of the monastery, everything has the same color as the rocks of the place and the stones with which the walls and the monastery are built, of which we see a part on the left.
Very well managed both the brightness and the sharpness of the image.
Nice work. That we enjoy.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Ike,
It is interesting that the wall gets more irregular at the top. Perhaps they could not find good quality stones as they got higher up.
