Photographer's Note
Going back to my Monasteries trip:
The Mar-Saba monastery was founded by Sabbas-the-Sanctified in 483AD, located in the Judean desert east of Jerusalem, built above the stunning canyon of the Kidron creek in a remote area which is not an easily accessible until 40+/- years ago.
Considered to be one of the oldest inhabited monasteries in the Christian world, has sacred relics in its premises.
(info. From the web).
Located at 31.705, 35.3315 on the Google-Map.
A cel-phone picture.
One WS on opposite view.

Hi Ike
An interesting view of the Monastery partly protected from the sun by being built on the side of a sheltered gorge. Good sharpness and warm colours. Tfs!

Hello Ike,
Two fine complementary photographs to capture the details of the remote, ancient monastery.
I was eager to read your notes to learn about the building!
The monastery seems like a series of steps, rising up the cliff.
For such a remote setting, the monks must have used mostly local materials to fashion this remote, yet beautiful building.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Ike,
Another very exotic and quite exciting looking monastery that seems to have been placed to be as uncomfortable as possible for the monks. Both photos are very interesting. I might even have preferred the WS as the main upload. Although lacking the warm light of this one I find it a better composition and more nicely cropped.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ike,
The mountains are framing well the monastery. The point of view is showing the details of the Sabbas-the Sanctified monastery. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ike,
So long time ago the monasteries hadden money for buildings, but this is past.
You show us two excellent pictures and good panorama view too
Composition and presentation are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Ike
Both of the pictures from the Judean Desert look fantastic and quite instructive! And their photo quality for street pictures makes me think of a technical invasion on behalf of the cells industry to dismantle the market for 'point and shoot' cameras.
I concede though the easier handling of the flatter phones.
These two pages of information, one due North and the other due South can constitute a subject matter for an interesting history lesson!

Hello Ike,
A beautiful view of the monastery and landscape beyond. There is also a nice contrast between the square shapes of the buildings and the rounder ones of the hills. The warm colours are appealing underneath the pale blue sky.

Hello Ike,
Two more excellent pictures of the Mar-Saba monastery in the Judean Desert.
In both photos you show us parts of the monastery in a beautiful way with the rugged rock wall just next to them.
At the bottom right of your main photo we see a remarkable church whose facade has been built in steps.
Since this monastery was partly built into the canyon, I suppose it gets quite dark early inside the buildings. However, this is perhaps also a protection against the heat.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ike, once again you show the desert with some amazing buildings.
Both views show us an extensive complex built on different levels, I am very impressed.
Informative notes.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ike,
Frank Loyd Wright must have been inspired by such buildings when he insisted that the buildings must match their natural environments.

Hi Ike
you know I like these, its a place I knew nothing about, but through TE i am aware...this is a great website - I hope it will be able to survive. I'm so impressed with all these buildings, and how they're able to be constructed. just amazing, photos will never do it justice. Sorry for the ignorant question....but people still live here correct? its still an active site? cheers

Hi Ike,
quite an original location of the monastery. I would say that most of the monasteries in Europe are advertising themselves by location on top of the hills, while here the buildings are hidden in the canyon.
Very good point of view to show the setting and location. You had a nice warm sunshine.
Very well done,
M
