Photographer's Note
In my country there are no red leaves in the autumn, and no frozen leaves in the winter. We do have a lot of these leaves of prickly pear cactus trees. The fruits are sweet and tasty, if you can get them without getting spined.
This kind of cactus (called Tzabar or Sabra) became a trademark of Israel-born young people - they sweet, soft, but spiny!

Nice picture with great shadows.
It's probably my display but it seems a little bit blurred.
Anyway I like it for its efficient simplicity.

Very effective, Yitzhak. You have timed it well, so that the shadows are not simply long but also do not overlap with the prickly things.

Nice detail on the leave, we have them as well, and taste very good - that id the fruit, not the leaf. We call it Turkish fig in my language. The detail of the thorns are well captured.

It's a good idea to try a close-up of a cactus, and the result is quite pleasing, Yitzhak. And it's a great example of how far you can get in photography with a plain and simple effort. The surface of the cactus and the needles are coming out almost three-dimensional. Well seen!

Je suppose que ce cactus produit les figues de barbarie qu'on appelle en Egyptien "Teen Chok" mmmm ! cela me rappelle de bons souvenirs.
La lumière rasante donne un joli relief à l'image.

wow the long shadows of the spines juxtaposed against the spines themselves is a wonderful pattern. like the nature of the ripples in the green skin also. very well seen and nice image.

Very well-seen. I've taken pictures of cactus myself but this one is extremely interesting because of the angle and the shadows.

Yes, Ouuch. I can't stand looking at cactus. All those needles are hurting my eyes. This is freaking me out. I know it's a very stupid phobia. One my ex told me I should seek for some professional helps after I totally freak out when she brought one at home.
But I did come over my fear and look at it long enough to enjoy your picture. Great texture rendering. Beautiful shot.
(And for me, maybe the start of my therapy ;-D)

Prickley Pear????? I have eaten many fruit, and sat on one when I was eight by mistake..... Mexicans fry the "leaves" in thin strips to eat.
