Photographer's Note
I felt compelled to post something about Turkey after I knew about the TE meeting held earlier this month in Istambul, in which I would have liked to participate. I was very well impressed with Turkey in general and Istambul in particular, which is one of the most enchanting cities that I ever visited and I would like to return with much more time. I am sure that Isabela, Anellise and Peter feel much the same and meeting them and their Turkish 'hosts' in such a place would be a pleasant and memorable experience.
I would have liked to post a photo of Istambul, but sadly I have already posted the only vaguely decent scan I have, so here it goes another image of Capadocia, a picturesque region with a rich and ancient history in Central Anatolia that is famous for these rock formations, popularly known as fairy chimneys, which are often used as troglodyte dwellings that sometimes are grouped in villages. Other attractions are underground cities like the ones of Özkonak, Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, and rock carved churches and monasteries dating from the 4th to the 11th centuries (wikipedia, TE: 1, 2), some featuring amazing frescoes.
I don't know the exact location where I made the shot, but incidentally I found a more panoramic TE post that I am pretty sure is of the same place.
On the WS's:
• #1 - tighter crop with more sharpness and smoother sky.
• #2 - view of Hagia Sophia from my hotel room in Istambul.

Hi Jose,
Until joining TE I did not know that this place even existed. That is the beauty of this website, it helps you discover places and helps to build your 'travel must see list'. I like the simple composition here, a little bit of FG, some good tall geological structures to add to the vertical composition and plenty of strong, rich colours to fill it up. The gradient of blue sky tones is very impressive. Perhaps I would suggest that you make the photo the slightest bit shaper; it is acceptable now but I think you could push it further. Thanks for this post, it looks good.

Hi Jose,
Unique scene from a nice point of view .. I like the dimension back from the foreground plant through the chimneys ... love the colors .. sharpness seems a bit strange - especially on the near chimney .. but must be difficult from a scan .. I don't associate this place with such vivid color .. very nice.
take care,
John

Hi Jose,
A nice view up the hill with these giant rocks, they make for an interesting subject. And the deep blue sky is the perfect background for them to stand out against.

Ola Jose,
Nice nature view of the chimneys with optimal light and colors. and sharp as it should be. The off centered vertical framing is good and works well for this compo

Tu e as tuas nostálgias...

Bravo.
Passa um bom dia.
Cordialmente

Olá José,
first for the workshop, the sky is a bit more mine, the sharpness would be better to talk about with some other subject as mainly the rock and I like the original more with the plant in front (maybe the right one for some sharpness comparison).
Good balancing with the slope and chimneys, strong colours and contrasts, very pleasant here for me. Good view on three of those chimneys.

Hello Jose,
These natural rock formations are certainly attractive. Interesting to see how they evolved to be tapered and pointing to the blue sky. A high quality image. Best regards, Danilo

Jose,
you really worked quite hard on this presentation. It took me a long time to go through your extremely informative note. The shot has an interesting view of what I only saw on posters all over the historical part of Istanbul, hanging in the tourist shops. Seems to be a place to go for sure!
By the way, that TE meeting in Istanbul was a huge coincidence. Until 1 week prior to my trip I didn't know where to go and Lisboa was also part of my options. Finally Istanbul prevailed and it was great.
Your image is what you get best out of a scan and I'm sure that with your in the meantime enriched TE wisdom would be done nowadays quite different. Right?

Hi Jose,
This is very interesting, I am very curious as to what they actually are! Are they some wind formations curved out of rock? Looks great against the blue sky, lovely crisp shot.
Well done,

Bonjour José,
une phot qui sent bon la chaleur de l'été avec ce ciel d'un bleu royal. Assurément une région typique sur le globe, l'Anatolie Centrale attire les photographes. Il y a tellement de photos à y faire.
Best regards.

Hi José, looking at your recent posts this one stands out for me. I like the contrast in colours between rock and sky, and the blueness of the sky is tremendous. Great sharpness on the rock formations.
