Photographer's Note
In southeast of Türkiye, families are larger. Bride, mother-in-law and the grandchildren live together.
Mother-in-law acts as a manager, all around are obliged to do what she says. They have great respect to the aged.
This photo belongs to Zelal(the little girl- her name means pure water) and her family. Her grandmother has 18 children, difficult to imagine but true.
They had warm hearts. Mardin is a must to see in the name of different culture, I felt that I have visited another country, another world.

Merhaba Figen Hanim.Hopefully she is kind to her daughters and daughters-in-law. Sometimes such women can be autocratic and make life for the younger women a misery. She seems to have kind eyes which are very noticeable in this B&W rendition.I like how you have included the younger woman in the shadows- quite symbolic. Selamlar. Klaudio.

Hello Figen,
The warmness of heart is what is indeed transmitted by your picture, through their eyes and smiles. An excellent portrait, as always!
The picture is perfectly framed by the whitewashed walls and excellently composed, with the two figures filling the fg and the other lady quietly stading in the background.
Thank you for letting us see this world!
Have a nice weekend,
Dasha

Merhaba Figen,
Excellent contrast and light in this bl/w, especially the light on the faces of the two at the front is perfectly managed.
The third woman in the background adds some intrigue to the shot, and although she is blurred, her role is just as important here, even not more, than the other two. Before reading your note I suspected this was a shot of three generations with the lady in the back being the mother of the youngest (daughter of the oldest).
So thumbs up for your note, for pointing out it is actually the mother-IN-LAW...and that is not insignificant!
There's a lot of dignity in this work. It is one of the best portraits I've seen here in quite a while.
Take care & thanks for sharing beauty.
Benny

Hello Figen,
This is a really beautiful picrure, well exposed and very thoughtfully composed. I like their faces showing a mixture of pride, dignity and slight bewilderment. Maybe the best feature is the young woman standing discreetly in the shade in the background, indicating women's traditional place in society.
I was in Mardin in 1971, unfortunately only for one day, and found it to be "another world". I would certainly like to go back.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Figen,
Congratulations with this strong human document, well presented with good contrasts and perfect focus and composition with the unlooking fuzzy lady in the background.

bayanın alnındaki işaret dikkatimi çekti, ilginc. çocucuğun çekingen tavrı biraz hüzünlü geldi, bu yaştaki çocuğun kanı kaynaması lazım ama gözleri fırtına öncesi sessizliği anlatıyor :). Kompozisyon ve uyum mükemmel.
Tebrikler..

Figen Merhaba..
Sevgiler.
Çağla.

hi figen,
your portraits are always respectful - in the sense that you can come very close to the people you photograph, show us their world, their lives, but never intrude. they open up to you and one can see in the photo what happens between the photographer and the photographed person.
I remember telling marine (eversmile) this about her portraits and it surely applies also to your photos.
I like these three generations of women encompassed by the walls - there's a smile on all their faces, indeed a kind of smile one doesn't see often anymore in big cities.

Aaaa, Mardine'e gittin demek sonunda. Fotoğraf müthiş, arka plandaki kadının flu kalışını çok sembolik ev analatımınla uyumlu buldum. Küçük kızın gözlerindeki ışığı sevdim. Işıklı insanlar gördümdü ben de Mardin'de.. Bu fotoğraf da onları örneklemiş. Çok başarılı. Devamını heyeacnla bekliyorum. Bakalım Figen'in Mardini nasıl ? ;-)))
Sevgiler,
