Cappadocia, Central Anatolia, Turkey

It is difficult to describe the feeling of the Hot air balloon ride in Turkey.

Hauled out of the bed at 3 am in the morning to be picked up by a bus to reach the 'site' for balloon launch, observing with awe the giant balloons being fired with gas, clambering over the basket (not an easy task) to position oneself with camera & mind fertile with expectations....

And then it happens...the balloon lifts up and starts sailing. The landform in Cappadocia, surreal thanks to the interplay between the forces of nature looks even more breathtaking from above. Sailing over the fabled 'fairy chimneys', sometimes just grazing by them, floating above the cave hewn churches and monasteries, as the sky changes colour at the horizon slowly beckoning sunrise...

Its a spectacle which would stay in my mind for my life time...sure it ripped my pockets (220 Eur for 1.5 hour ride), but for that I would perhaps save again to go an encore...:-)

Dear Dada,

Excellent composed picture. The sun rays behind the hill is looking very good and the balloon is very nicely seen and taken by you. We can see the ballon station in the pic. Lovely one.

Namaste Angshuman. Wonderful shot that revives my memories of my flight over the same landscape. The contrast between the soft colours of the sky and the dark shapes in the foreground is very effective. Great details all over the scene, no doubt due to excellent exposure. i presume that after a while the sky was full of balloons, twenty or more. Best wishes. Klaudio.

a really dreamily scenery with the hot air balloon to outline against the sunset colours tints of the sky.The panoramic view of this magnificent place is superb in spite of the 220 Eur for 1.5 hour ride.Scenes like this is etched in mind for ever.

The wideness of the area is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is allowing me to see the scenery and the hot air ballon in the sky. The sunrise is giving nice colors to the sky. Have a nice day.

An amazing view of this very peculiar part of the world. The single balloon in the pink sky above the almost dark ground creates a strange and almost eerie effect. It's a very beautiful and well composed photo.

Greeting Mr. B,

It would be difficult not to get a good photo with this magical topography, not just with with the fairy chimneys but with the history resonating at the site. The price has really gone up, much higher than the hot air balloons over Luxor and Karnak in Egypt. An hour or two later, the light would have been better, but no doubt, that was not an option.

Hello Angshu,
This amount is indeed a big bite out of the travel budget. A return flight from Belgium to Turkey is much less expensive :)
I agree it will be a wonderful and unique experience. But which of your pictures do you like the most ? Those taken in the balloon or the others taken on land ? Of course the experience is more than only photography.
The enchanting landscape of Cappadocia with the village between the strange rock formations is very beautifully presented here under that pink sky.

But yours has a nice silhouetted balloon in it that I was unable to capture within my frame. A superb sunrise with fiery red colours and excellent sharpness and saturation. Nice repetition of the fairy chimneys. Tfs.
