This picture is taken in Ottawa where the Rideau Canal reaches the Ottawa River. Before you can navigate from the canal to the river you have the pass the lock-system at the end of the canal.
The picture shows the last gate before the canal reaches the Ottawa river. The rippled water above is in the Ottawa River. The water below is in the last lock of the canal and is smooth like a mirror.
The person is walking over the last gate, as I will show you tomorrow.

The line between reality above and reflection beneath is about 1/3 from the top of the scene.

The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects the city of Ottawa, on the Ottawa River to the city of Kingston, Ontario, on Lake Ontario. It is 202
The Rideau Canal uses a lock system that is still fully functioning. The gates that let boats travel in and out of the locks last approximately 12�15 years. Today they are made in Smiths Falls, Ontario, and sometimes take up to 2 months to build 1 set of gates.

Hello Rob,
An unusual and original image featuring one of the locks on the Rideau Canal, something I would never have thought of doing. The silhouettes of the lock gate and the man walking across make for a most interesting graphical composition. Superb golden lights.

Hello Rob,

It is a really good combination of reality and reflection and I just love how carefully we have to scrutinise the photograph to see where one ends and the other begins.
The silhouetted figure and structure give the effect of an etching.
You really have found a different angle on the subject of reflections.

Hello Rob,
This is a great photo. It actually reminds me of the famous wooden bridge in Mandalay, Burma, but that one is usually depicted with a monk or two. This one has a superb graphic beauty and lovely tones. I like the contrasts of orange and pink, and also of rippled and calm water, but I think this could also have been a superb photo of just the lower, pink part, either shown like this or flipped vertically.
I will have to add this to my favorites, regardless of cropping or flipping.

Hallo Rob,
Soms is het leuk een weerspiegeling op z'n kop te zetten, maar hier is het juist zo leuk dat de avondwandelaar zelf op z'n kop staat. De donkere sluisdeur steekt heel sterk af tegen de zachte kleuren van de weerspiegelde avondlucht.

Excellent image, well-spotted and executed. Many photographers decide to flip shots like these upside down in pp, like you have done with another image of yours. But with this one, I think, your decision to keep the original way up is a good one. Eye-catching work.
