Photographer's Note

Morning mist in downtown Vancouver. This was my first opportunity to try out my new super-wide angle, which amazed me by allowing me to get both the street and the top of the buildings in the same shot from almost in front of the building. The building on the left is one of many new towers along Vancouver's waterfront, approximately 45 stories. The building second from the right is one of the most beautiful in Vancouver, an Art Deco office building from 1930, which has that stepped design characteristic of the era.

Wow, super photo! And yes, you did get a lot of whole view in your photo...cool new wide-amgel I'd say! It's been quite misty for the past few days, giving some neat photo opportunities.

Great perspective and I love how the blue sky comes through the clouds and how the building are in the mist. Very cool shot!

Hi Alvin. Oh what a great shot for a super-wide angle. Do tell what sort of lens did you get? It seems to do a fantastic job. I am going to be posting skyscraper shots in Vancouver with reflections but I didn't have nearly enough wide-angle to allow for this style of shot. Awesome shot Alvin!

AWESOME SHOT ALVIN!

I love it! Wish I had the opportunity to try out my 17-55mm on the streets of Vancouver!

An awesome sky in conjunction with the reflections off the windows- complimented by the foggy/ mist created.... well done Alvin.
You must have been up pretty early to capture this one.

Great shot, Alvin, I enjoy this type of lens, too. As one critique said of my recent "The Shore at Dusk," for certain shots it makes you feel "sucked into the photo." In this case, though maybe not "sucked in," it really gives the feeling of actually walking down the street and looking up. Nice one! Regards, Ken.

Man, as gorgeous as ever!

You always post great stuff, and this is no exception. The slight angle, while usually something that would bother me, works fantastically with this shot. It gives the photo a lot of interest, and the colours you've captured are brilliant.

Makes me long for Canon's 10-22mm!

That's pretty amazing Alvin - I think you're going to have a lot of fun with that lens! :)

Apart from the amazing angles, this shot has a really nice transition from darkness to light, reflections and colours. Brilliant.

Overall I think the shot could have taken a little more brightness - but that's a minor thing - possibly a pc display thing.

Hi Alvin,
Congratulations on getting wiiiiiiiiiide, you'll see with the use it relates pretty much to addiction !
We can see here the dynamizing effect brought by the wide distortion, but this alone is well complemented by the clouds that have just the right pattern to further strengthen this effect.

Hi Alvin - very Gotham, the sky above is so clear, yet the mist below gives a special atmosphere, the way the clouds reflect on the left tower blends with the real ones behind it, making it look like we are seeing through the building.

I can only appreciate this pov as I did not succeed to take a decent shot of Vancouver buildings. You catch a great sky despite the latest foggy days. I could only use a local fish-eye ;o).

I'm taking a couple of days off from TE, Alvin, but this one I absolutely felt like commenting on. Congrats on the super-WA lens, and you sure found a nice way to apply it in this upward angle on the skyscrapers. As if the framing as such weren't spectacular enough, the added treats of fluffy clouds, ambient light and haze do the rest to elevate this to a great shot.

It makes me feel all dizzy. Amazing lighjt and composition, the mist adds mood and the mackerel sky is superb. The new wide angle certainly does its job

Alvin I see you really took adcantage of the fog in this photo. I was in Vancouver yesterday and it was foggy from Abbotsford all the way to downtown Cancouver. The sky is incredible and the distant fog a pleasure to see. Good work!

You made a very effective use of your new zoom.Is it the Sigma? I磎 thinking of buying it too,-but I磎 not shure yet.
Astonishing superwide perspective with good handling of the strong contrasts.Also a nice catch of early morning urban mood.

This shot is a tour de force. In fact, it has made up my mind as to the super wide angle lens I've toyed with acquiring. The depth in this shot is unreal. I love also the clarity and the dramatic sky. One of your best.

This is SUPER! Your POV is outstanding. I love how the distant buildings are still covered by some early morning fog and how the sunlight is delicately hitting the building in the distant center.

Hi Alvin,
Impressive. Giving almost vertigo, even if your point of view is from the ground! The wide angle gives very beautiful pictures. It may be one of my future lens (not Nikon though lols!). Your POV is fantastic, creating the feeling we are between highrises, at least for me. The morning mist is a big plus, with the sun trying to break and almost succeeding. Very beautiful picture!

Having trod this street a lot in the last couple of weeks I am really inspired by this image - this is simply fantastic - I was looking a little for some opportunity like this but never really got the weather or skies ....or position......this is a really great take - brilliant!!

Wow Alvin, what can I say? What a shot! You couldn't ask for better clouds for a shot like this. I think the fact that they are small and fairly aligned goes well with the multi-windowed buildings, much better than if you had big billowy or wispy clouds. The mist is a great touch as well, and the wide-angle lens appears to have come through for you. Fantastic all around. Thanks for sharing.

i know im no expert on these matters, but i really the angle in which u took this beautiful sky, the clouds are really nice and i like the effect the reflection has on the buildings, hope i can get i sky like that now that im in the caribbean, thanks for sharing!
